Whether you tidy up your place regularly or only declutter and arrange things before guests arrive, it is valuable to know a few quick and easy tips and tricks that can make the cleaning process a whole lot easier.

To help save you some time and frustration and avoid shelling out a considerable amount of money on cleaning products, we have outlined a list of some cheap and easy hacks that can totally transform your cleaning routine.

1. Clean Your Couch Stains with Baking Soda

Baking soda is known to remove bad smell and break up stains on the fabric. You can use it to get rid of the stains on your couch.

First, brush off the surface of the couch. Sprinkle the area you want to clean with baking soda. Let it sit for about 20-60 minutes, depending on the amount of stain. Then, vacuum the couch with a brush attachment to remove the baking soda. You can use and apply this simple cleaner again to tackle any remaining stains.

2. Degrease Your Oven with Lemon Oil

Lemon essential oil not only brings scent benefits. It also helps remove stubborn grease stains from kitchen equipment, such as an oven.

First, mix one cup of water, one cup of vinegar, and some lemon essential oil. Then, spray the mixture onto your stovetop and wipe it clean. If your stovetop has tough stains, sprinkle baking soda first, then spray and wipe. Use the same technique to wipe out the grease of your oven. This can help prevent kitchen fires.

3. Clean Your Toilets and Apply Essential Oils

You can apply the same cleaning solution that you are using to freshen up your toilet. Just let it soak for a bit, then flush and wipe the seat.

Experts recommend using essential oils in a DIY toilet cleaner. Mix one cup of baking soda with 15 drops of lemon or orange essential oil and 15 drops of tea tree essential oil. Let the mixture sit in the container for 30 minutes. Then, scrub the mixture with a bowl brush and flush.

4. Get Rid of the Shower Scum

With the shower scum that’s hard to remove, cleaning the bathroom is one of the tasks that most people don’t want to get stuck in. However, the chore has to be done. The good news is that there is an easy and efficient way to remove soap scum and grime that’s building up inside your shower.

Fill a dish wand with half dish soap and vinegar. Then, get to scrubbing. If you don’t have a dish wand, use an old sponge or toothbrush. Dip it into a cup of the same solution and then scrub.

5. Spruce Up the Mattress with Baking Soda and Vinegar

People tend to wash their bedding regularly. However, no matter how often you want to clean your mattress, you cannot throw it in the washing machine as you do with the bedding. Fortunately, you can keep it clean with some kitchen essentials.

Cleaning professionals say that cleaning the mattress regularly helps avoid dust mites, dead skin cells, and many more. To remove the stain, try spraying the mattress with vinegar. Then, sprinkle baking soda on the area you want to clean. You can also put a towel over the area and let it sit for a couple of hours. Take the vacuum and run through the mattress for a final clean.

6. Unblock Air Vents

Over time, air vents can get pretty dirty and dusty. If you have not checked them in a while, they are probably soiled and smudged. As a result, dust enters your room and blocks the air from getting out.

There’s an easy way to fix this. First, remove dust with a soft vacuum brush tool. If the dust is still there, soak a rag with any cleaning solution you have. Wrap it around a stick and start cleaning the vents.

7. Clean Window Blinds

There are many methods you can use to clean your window blinds, which usually depends on how rusty or dirty your blinds are. To help get the job done right away and proceed to the next one, here’s an easy solution for you:

Combine equal parts of water and vinegar in a small container. Get a sock to put over your hand and dip it in the solution. Then, run your hand over each slat of the blinds to remove any dirt or dust. Easy, right?

8. Repurpose Dryer Sheets

Even if your dryer sheets are worn-out, they can still work magic around your house. They can be used to:

remove water spots from mirrors, bathroom or kitchen fixtures, and shower doors;

get rid of the ring inside the toilet; and

wipe baseboards clean.

9. Freshen Up Smelly Sneakers

Although your dirty sneakers are just sitting by the door, anyone can smell them from across the room. So, sprinkle some baking soda on the shoes. That will keep them smelling fresh and ready to be worn again.

Mud, dirty and, everything else that sneakers pick up can stick on them for a while. To remove them, run hot water on the bottom of the shoes. Then, use a toothbrush to scrub off any remaining mud or dirt that does not wash off with water.

10. Remove Common Household Stains

Here are some common stains that you never thought you can remove them with basic household supplies:

Juice: Use a mixture of one teaspoon dishwashing liquid and one cup warm water to remove the stain.

Wine: Blot with water. Use a detergent solution if the stain remains. Three-percent hydrogen peroxide works on red wine.
