The shoe's influence soon spread beyond sports when, in 1986, Queens-based rap group Run-D.M.C. released a song paying tribute to the Superstar, which they wore on- and off-stage, air force 1 utility laceless. In a pivotal moment, the trio proudly held up the three-striped kicks in front of an audience of 40,000 - a crowd that serendipitously had an adidas employee in its midst. And so sparked an advertising partnership between the band and the brand, making it the first million-dollar endorsement deal between musical artists and a major corporation.

I remember when Tabitha called me to ask about the dress [in 2016], and I took that as a really good sign, Vevers says. Not long afterwards, I saw her wearing it at the Greenwich Hotel, so the dress felt like a really natural starting point for us. Their collaboration includes familiar styles from both designers, like Simmons's pointy-toe Hermione flat and Vevers's foam wedge combat boots, in new collages of jewel-toned floral velvets. Other silhouettes haven't been seen before, like the flat lace-up sandal with sheer mesh and velvet, a grounded twist on Simmons's signature Freya stilettos. Tabitha's taste is very refined and elegant, and then Coach shoes are a air force 1 mid bit more down-to-earth, so I found it interesting to bring those two aesthetics together, Vevers says.

Mattel isn't kidding when they say Air Force 1 the Barbie dolls are made in each woman's likeness. The three new dolls look like shrunken down miniatures of the women they're honoring. Billie Jean King's Barbie doll is wearing her iconic two-tone blue and mint-green tennis dress, round-frame glasses, and blue tennis shoes. She also, of course, comes with a Wilson racket and tennis ball. Have Billie Jean King Barbie keep you company while watching the movie Battle Of The Sexes.
