What is LCL shipping?
In sea freight, there are two kinds through which cargo containers are moved: less-than-container load (LCL) and full container load (FCL).
LCL shipping is when the load you wish to move does not take up all the space in the moving container. Thus, leaving space for other loads to be moved in the same container. In business terms, if the load you want to ship does not fill the 20 or 40-feet container completely then other cargos can be moved with it. Such a shipment is called LCL shipping. In contrast to this, FCL is when you have the entire container assigned for your load. It is usually advised to use FCL only if you have a heavy load for shipment.
How does LCL shipping work?
LCL shipped in a container, in logistics terms referred to as groupage. There are different cargos(loads) in one shipment therefore it’s important to have good management and an efficient operations team to keep the process smoothly running.
LCL Shipping Booking
If you decide to ship using LCL freight, you will have to disclose the loads’ weight and its height. Mainly, you have to share the size and weight of the cargo. Other than this, you’ll have to list:
Plan
Package list
Your currently used account
Additional options are provided for the shipping as per the selection of the shipping type and destination.
