Discover Curacao, a wonderful Caribbean´s island

Curacao is a Caribbean island that was once part of the Dutch Antilles. Together with Aruba and Bonaire, they form a group of islands called the ABC Islands, which stretches along Venezuela's coast. Being well south of the Caribbean, Curacao is outside the hurricane zone. It is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (constitutional monarchy, with King William Alexander as King of the "Netherlands").

When to visit Curacao?

As Curacao is outside the Caribbean hurricane zone, it is possible and safe to visit it in every month of the year. Although in some years it was affected by some super hurricanes in the area, that is unusual. Its climate is very dry, with rain a few days a year. You will see a lot of soil, dust and cactus. The average temperature throughout the year is 27ºC.

How to get around Curacao?

The best way to get to know Curacao is to rent a car. That is consensus. Curacao is definitely not the place to stay every day in a hotel. Some hotels have beautiful beaches, but not the most beautiful beaches on the island. And they are many, scattered throughout the region. Major car rental companies (international networks) are present on the island and have counters at the airport.

Where to stay in Curacao? Best Hotels

Curacao has hotels for all profiles and pockets. Avila Beach Hotel is in Willemstad, with many good restaurants nearby. Another positive point is its location. Also, it is next to a beautiful beach, with calm and blue waters. Avila has been a historic hotel since the 19th century. It was the first hotel on the island and it had been a hospital in the past. There is a main building that has a good local Dutch-Caribbean style and other more modern buildings attached to it.

The hotel has a swimming pool and two restaurants. The main one is where breakfast is served. Breakfast is included, and it is quite modest. The other restaurant has live music, and it is only open at night.

Baose Luxury Resort is considered to be the best hotel in Curacao, being the most luxurious and exclusive hotel on the island. Baose's concept is all Asian, both in the decor (lots of wood on the floor, ceiling and furniture) and in the hotel atmosphere. It has only 23 dwellings divided between villas, suites and rooms.

Breakfast is included, and it is possible to order a snack to enjoy on the room´s balcony for only 10 USD.
It has a great beach, which is extremely peaceful, like being in a deserted island. Baose is located in Willemstad. There are no attractions nearby, but it is not far away from many beaches (such as Mambo Beach) and some good restaurants.

Then, if you like all-inclusive hotels, Dreams Resort is your best choice in Curacao. The hotel is brand new. Opened in 2019, it ended up being closed for some time by the pandemic, and now it has reopened again. For those who have been to Curacao, you will remember: this was the former Hilton, which underwent a super extreme makeover. The rooms are large and the decor is contemporary, very clean with local touches. It's a premium all-inclusive. It is located in Piscadera Bay, in a region very suitable for exploring both the south and the north (actually Westpunt) of the island.

Breakfast is buffet, but in the pandemic, only employees can serve the food (everything is closed or separated by acrylic). Lunch is also at the buffet (very complete, by the way), served from 1 pm. Before that there is a buffet with snacks next to the pool, which serves things such as hamburgers, quesadillas and hot dog.

Dinner is à la carte, and there are 4 restaurant options: Oceana (seafood with a beautiful view of the sunset), Portofino (Italian cuisine - pasta and pizza - under lights), Seaside Grill (meat and other specialties, served poolside) and Iguana Café (brewery and tex-mex).

The highlight is the main pool, which is beautiful. The resort also has a children's pool, a kids club (you can leave your child with supervision if they are between 3 and 12 years old), an outdoor playground, spa, dive center, casino and a super complete gym. The beach area is small but it is a beautiful beach, which has bar service.

Dreams is part of a hotel chain called AM Resorts, with hotels throughout the Caribbean, Central America, North America and also Spain.
