It’s a well-known fact that an airsoft scope can improve your abilities in the field or in a match. While they aren’t always the best choice in optics for AEGs, if you carry around an airsoft rifle with which you need to be effective at range (like an airsoft sniper rifle) the naked gun just won’t do too much for you.
They improve your confidence, can assist your accuracy by leaps and bounds, and can even be valuable tools for reconnaissance. With that said, before you go shopping for your next rifle scope upgrade, heed these words of wisdom and get a scope that has these qualities.
1.Waterproof and Fogproof
Airsoft matches, especially some MilSim matches, take place largely or entirely outdoors, where the elements are less than forgiving. While it should be abundantly obvious what the value of a waterproof scope is, fog proofing can be just as valuable. You see, a scope that is not waterproof will, over time, absorb moisture into its inner works. After that point, it will fog up periodically due to the moisture within. On top of that, humid conditions can make the outer lenses of non-fogproof models act up, too.
2.Shock Resistance or a Rubberized Coating
A scope is not a piece of equipment that you should be banging around or treating roughly, no matter your reasoning. However, when you’re out in the field, bumps, drops, and knocks are inevitable. The tougher your scope is, the better it will last. Get a tough scope. Some of them are even rubberized to better tolerate shock.
3.Several Different (Preferably Illuminated) Reticles
In low light conditions, an illuminated reticle can make a world of difference in whether you can actually see where you’re looking or not. Many scopes come with red and green illuminated reticles so you can see better in low light conditions - and red is great because red light does not bleach the rhodopsin in your retinas, preserving your night vision.
4.Easy Adjustability
If possible, get a scope that offers easy adjustability without having to remove knob covers. This will help you make adjustments to the scope’s calibration in the field if you ever have to.
5.Variable Magnification
Finally, get a scope with variable magnification, like a 3-9x or a 4-16x scope, if you can. While the lower magnification settings usually offer the crispest sight picture, if you ever need to use your scope for recon, you’ll be glad you had the ability to zoom in.
These are some of the best traits that you can hope to find in airsoft scopes, and as you’ll probably find out, many of the best gun scopes have these features.
