The former Bogota mayor Bogota and former senator of the Republic took the victory in the Historic Pact alliance and officially declared himself a candidate for the presidency of the Republic which that he's aspired to in the past three years.

Despite his controversial proposals on various fronts and ideas, the high voting in the consultation has been a sign of his status as the most representative persona of Colombia's left.

Petro has announced his desire to adjust pensions through the creation of a public administrator for pension funds that will operate the benefit of a "mixed and complementary system" together with private funds.

gustavo petro stated that Colombia has no pension system but instead a system that is based on bank profit. This is the reason that many believe would make him the most likely choice to win the Presidency. Petro said recently that he would not eliminate the system, but he will pursue reforms in pensions to ensure that Colombians have a minimum pension. He also stated that there's no reason to increase the retirement age.

Another issue that has caused controversy is that he has repeatedly said that he would end extraction of oil by the time when he becomes president. This has been an issue that has led to uncertainty among investors.

Experts believe that Petro's plan of stopping exploration of oil could cost Colombia an estimated $4.3 billion in losses.

In addition to this, the proposal is to create an anti-oil front in the region and the world, which moves away from fossil fuels for which I'd like to invite the new president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, and the Brazilian Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and others.

Petro claimed that he'd spoken to Pedro Sanchez, Spain's Prime Minister, about his proposal.

His position on healthcare is also controversial. https://www.eluniversal.com.co/temas/-/meta/gustavo-petro wants to end EPS and replacing it with the preventive-care model which "guarantees the rights of individuals and not bankers' profits."

He has also questioned the independence of the Banco de la Republica and said he'd implement a change in the event of becoming the President.

https://www.elespectador.com/tags/gustavo-petro/ stated that the Bank Board of Directors belongs to the Democratic Center. Accordingly, the candidate in the middle of a debate said "What do we need? http://www.secretariasenado.gov.co/senadores/53-senadores-2018-2022... of the Republic (...) It seems to me that it is essential that the board of directors has the presence of the Society."

https://www.bluradio.com/noticias/gustavo-petro claims that Petro is the president's choice for decision to vote.

His idea to issue cash to fund government expenditures was not without controversy.

The main pillars of Petro's plan are an economy that does not depend on fossil fuels, mining and hydrocarbon extraction, with increasing importance to agriculture.

He also stated that he would implement a tax reform to eliminate exemptions, and to transform the concept of minimum wage into a real wage based on income and capital.
