How Grow Lights Take Your Indoor Herb Garden to the Next Level

When you become a plant parent, you stock up on the essentials: a watering can, pruning snips, a hand trowel, and perhaps a mister or extra potting soil. But a little-known accessory can actually extend the life of your plants tenfold and help them thrive indoors, especially if you just invested in one of our light-loving edible garden plants.

Meet the humble grow light. This little-known gadget allows you to create the perfect lighting conditions for your plant babies — it’s perfect for those in small or windowless spaces that lack natural light. By employing a specific photosynthetic light that is scientifically-proven to support plant health, our grow lights can help your plants thrive in any conditions.

Below, find everything you need to know about grow lights, specifically how they can take your indoor herb garden to the next level.
How a Grow Light Works
Simply put, grow lights use a specific photosynthetic spectrum light that mimics the light of the sun. Plant cells absorb the light, convert it into energy, and store it as sugar — a process known as photosynthesis. The plant then uses this energy to grow and give off oxygen. Our grow lights contain LED bulbs, which are the best option for both your herbs and the environment — they’re extremely energy efficient, enhance photosynthesis, and last five times longer than fluorescent bulbs.
Grow Lights & Indoor Herb Gardens
While grow lights can benefit plants from all walks of life (including a large Bird of Paradise or Chinese Fan Palm), herbs and veggies in particular crave bright light. “Most herbs require at least six to eight hours of light each day,” reports New York Magazine. “Light is especially crucial for aromatic herbs like rosemary, which has a high oil concentration.” The oils in each herb are what gives them their distinctive flavor, so the more light you can provide, the more flavorful your herbs will be.
In other words, an eco farm led lights may be necessary for your indoor herb garden, even if you have plenty of natural light in your space. To that end, if you live in an area that experiences extreme seasons, a grow light is an essential for dim winter months where even peak afternoon sunlight isn’t very bright.
How to Use a Grow Light at Home
Our large and small grow lights are extremely easy to use. All installation hardware is included with your purchase — it comes with an ECO FARM full spectrum led grow light, a fabric cord, outlet timer, a three-pack of ceiling hooks, two wall fairleads, one swag hook, and a quick start guide.
To get started, simply find a spot for your herb garden and set up shop. If you’re using the grow light to supplement natural light, it’s perfectly okay to place your herbs by a window and install the grow light overhead. Be sure to install your lights directly above your herbs to mimic the sun — this will also ensure that your plants grow straight. LED bulbs give off less heat than fluorescent and incandescent lights, so you can hang your indoor soil grow lights six inches away from your herbs. Adjust the placement of the light as your herbs grow.
As for timing, make sure your herbs get six to eight hours of light per day. You can set the timer on your grow light so it turns on and off automatically. You can also adjust this feature to account for seasonal changes — you may use the light more in the wintertime.
