How to Fix Windows 10 not working issues

With the latest Windows 10, Microsoft regularly releases Cumulative Updates and Feature Updates every six months with various security improvements, bug fixes, and new features as well. Overall, the latest Windows 10 is the best operating system from Microsoft which is faster, secure and the company regularly adds new features as well. But with regular use, sometimes you may experience Windows 10 not working as expected, it takes time to start up. Few users report that Windows 10 is unresponsive after upgrade. Although it boots normally, the desktop screen freezes for a few seconds on startup or the system crashes with a blue screen error.

Also, some other users reported that Windows 10 not working issues after the update. When you open any app or file explorer it doesn't respond for a few seconds or Windows 10 doesn't respond to mouse clicks. And the common reason for this problem is damaged system files. Again, software or hardware conflict, disk drive error or virus malware infection also make Windows 10 unresponsive or slow performance.

Windows 10 not responding
If your Windows 10 laptop is frozen or unresponsive after upgrading, apply the solutions listed here that will help you fix the problem and get your computer back up and running.

If Windows 10 is frequently unresponsive or crashes, we recommend starting Windows in safe mode before applying the solutions listed below.

If this is the first time you notice that Windows 10 is slow and not working well, we recommend that you restart your PC and check if this helps.

Perform a full system scan with the latest updated antivirus or antimalware to make sure malware infection is not causing the problem. Also, download free system optimizers like Ccleaner to clear temporary files, cache, cookies, registry errors and optimize Windows 10 system as well.

Update windows 10
Microsoft regularly releases Cumulative Updates with the latest bug fixes and security improvements that also fix the above issues. Install the latest updates that may have bug fixes for this issue.

Press Windows + I to open the Settings app,

Click on Update and security and then on Windows update,

Next, you need to click the Check for updates button to allow the latest Windows updates to be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft server.

Once done, you need to restart Windows to apply them.

Delete temporary files
Having a large number of temporary or cache files can take up valuable memory. These files can cause problems with the operation of Windows.

To remove these files:

1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.

2. Type "temp" in the box and press Enter.

3. In the list of temporary files, select all of them by pressing Ctrl + A and delete them.

Update drivers
An old and outdated driver can be the culprit behind Windows freezing. Try updating the drivers to see if it fixes the problem.

1. Type "Device Manager" in the search box at the bottom of your screen.

2. Click on the app that appears to launch it.

3. Open each hardware option one at a time.

4. Right click on the hardware and select "Update driver".

Use the built-in Troubleshooter
1. Open Settings by pressing Win + I.

2. In the search box, type "System Maintenance".

3. Two options will appear. Click "Perform recommended maintenance tasks automatically."

4. Click Next and follow the instructions.

5. Once the scan is finished, reboot the machine and see if the issue is resolved.

Disable apps from running in the background
With the latest version of Windows 10, some apps automatically run in the background. That uses unnecessary system resources that make Windows performance slow or unresponsive at startup. Disable background apps not only saves system resources but also speeds up Windows 10 performance.

Right click on the Windows 10 start menu, select settings,
Click Privacy and select Background Apps on the left side.
This will show all running apps, I recommend Disable all these apps.
Now shut down Windows, reboot the system and check that the next login computer works without any problems.

Repair corrupt system files

As discussed above, if Windows 10 system files get corrupted or missing, you might experience different issues like system not responding or freezing. Run the built-in system file checker utility that automatically detects and restores them with the correct ones.

Open command prompt as administrator,
Type the command sfc /scannow and press the enter key
This will start searching for missing or damaged system files,
If any are found, the utility will automatically restore them from a special cache folder located at %WinDir%\System32\dllcache.
You just have to wait until 100% of the scanning process is complete.
