The company has filed two trademarks with the UK and in the US, one in the name of "OSRS Gold" and OSRS Gold another in the name of "RS Gold" and stating that the company has registered trademarks that use the phrases as words. This will likely stop third-party sites from being allowed to claim that they sell RS Gold.

A simple Google search of either term results in hundreds of websites most of them having one of the terms in their URLs, and that provide the currency of RuneScape that can be exchanged for real money. The announcement came on the 13th of October, that Jagex had put an end to "real-world trade". In a post on its website "The RuneScape Team" clarified that "gold that is purchased via RWT real-world trading is an issue in any online game that uses a marketable currency."

Jagex promises to start sending "messages to players that we've identified who are involved to engage in"Real World Television" within "the coming hours". "For those who have been involved, we want to be clear : this is your one or only warning" they added.

The announcement also included the news that the game's PvP option, Duel Arena, would have sweeping changes that would include the more strict enforcement of the game's code of conduct in order to encourage positive playing. Jagex declares that the mode "has been a flashpoint for this toxic behaviour".

Before that, however the publisher's "short-term measures" will be put into place "until our development teams are able to provide a major update that fully replaces the Duel Arena in the coming year."

Is RuneScape worth playing in 2022?

RuneScape hasn't survived for more than 20 years , because it's an average experience that doesn't have any players in the long term. As an MMORPG it's part of Buy RS Gold a genre which is always close to extinction regardless of the popularity of a very few games.
