A thermoplastic splint and an AllFit dental cast may be used to manage surgical excision necrosectomy. Both the materials are designed to constrain the damaged tissue without cutting it. They can be applied as a way to immobilize, protect, and provide a moist environment.
Thermoplastic splints are often preferred over AllFit dental casts because of their easier application with fewer complications or aftercare issues. Thermoplastic splints have a continuous static load-bearing surface that allows for a breathable barrier between the skin and exterior wound site.
The term “thermoplastic” comes from the process of converting polymers into plastics that will melt when heated with no melting point or degradation temperature.
