Natural gas conversion from traditional fuel systems has been around for quite a long time. But as the technology has gotten better, so has the efficiency of gas engine systems. Plus with the recent increased production of the offshore shale boom prices have never been lower. There has simply never been a better time to switch over from traditional fuels to gas.

However many people still do not know much about natural gas conversion so they remain hesitant to make the switch.

What is it?

Compressed natural gas (CNG) is the cleanest and most abundant energy resource currently commercially available. Besides being cleaner, it also operates more quietly and is completely odorless.

Over half of the oil refined in the United States has to be imported. But the biggest impact of a CNG vehicle compared to traditional gasoline is the emissions. CNG vehicles emits 50% less nitrogen oxide, 21% less greenhouse gases, and more than 50% less particulates.

Additionally, vehicles that run on natural gas require oil changes less often, which leads to fewer maintenance issues overall. So it is not just the fuel source that cuts your costs, there are secondary cost savings built in to running on CNG.

But you don't necessarily have to go all in right from the get go. It is possible to convert your engine into a dual system, provided that it was previously running on diesel fuel. After starting up normally an automatic switch begins to incorporate the natural gas into the combustion process of the diesel. This method does not decrease the associated costs like the oil and maintenance schedule but still offers a fuel savings of around twenty five percent per year.
