Party Rockin’: LMFAOs Real Meaning On Their Trademark

It’s been nine years and we still can’t get over the electronic pop music duo LMFAO and their hits ‘Party Rock Anthem’ and ‘Sexy And I Know It’. But the real question here is the real meaning behind their name. What does LMFAO mean? Surprisingly, in a clarification the duo made on their trademark, it isn’t as dirty as it may seem.

In this article, you will learn more about the band LMFAO, what happened to them, and the real meaning behind their trademarked name.

LMFAO: Family Fun
If you didn’t know it yet, the band’s RedFoo and SkyBlue aren’t some friends who put together awesome music—they’re actually related! RedFoo is actually SkyBlu’s uncle but the age gap isn’t that huge as they are only 45 and 34. Another fun fact is their background— RedFoo’s dad Berry Gordy is actually the founder of the popular Motown Records. It’s safe to say that the gift of music runs in the family. Cool, huh?

Real Meaning Behind LMFAO Trademark
The LMFAO trademark which was first filed in 2008 actually means “Laughing My Freaking Ass Off”. Yes, it is not the F-word we were all expecting. Perhaps they really wanted to use the dirtier word but apparently, their first application got rejected because their mark contained “immoral, deceptive or scandalous matter”. They just had to change it to get the USPTO’s approval—but in the end, decided to abandon their registration.

Perhaps it was the best decision as the term LMFAO was already a common term used by people when texting their friends. They would have to go through the lengthy process of proving that LMFAO has a secondary distinctive trait that won’t be too generic. The likelihood of getting their mark approved was already very low.

Hit Songs
If you don’t know LMFAO you’re either too young or you live under a rock. We all know that 2011 parties were never complete without Party Rock Anthem or Sexy and I Know It. LMFAO’s music is catchy, fun, and makes everyone dance like no one’s looking. They started way back in 2006 and these two hits made them skyrocket to fame—they even played music at the Superbowl with Madonna. They were living the life every musician wanted, and more. They were considered an international sensation with their music being popular party music in Asia.

Sadly, they decided to part ways in 2012, after six years of making music together. RedFoo has been on a hiatus because of his failed solo album while SkyBlu still produces music. We can all agree that to this date, their music still lives on and brings back happy memories from 2011. We can only hope for their return but it seems that it’s impossible at this point.

Nonetheless, if you want to hear their music, they have it on your favorite streaming sites like YouTube or Spotify. What’s your favorite LMFAO track so far? Don’t forget to party rock to their music!
