Qatar National Vision 2030 Driving Facility Management Services Demand

Largescale infrastructure development, owing to the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 and the Qatar National Vision 2030, is creating a huge requirement for facility management services in Qatar. As the Qatar National Vision 2030 initiative is based on social development, environmental development, human development, and economic development, an increasing number of infrastructure projects and the flourishing tourism industry will propel the need for facility management solutions in the country. Similarly, the rising construction of hotels, shops, sports arenas, and other facilities, on account of the FIFA World Cup 2022 will also propel the adoption of such services.

Moreover, the increasing number of initiatives to empower, educate, and promote facility management service providers in the domain of sustainable practices will also augment the Qatar facility management market at a robust CAGR of 16.4% during the forecast period (2020–2030). According to P&S Intelligence, the market revenue will surge from $4,613.0 million in 2019 to $21,975.1 million by 2030. For instance, the Middle East Facility Management Association (MEFA) and the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) set up the Facility Management Interest Group to showcase the best practices related to facility services and impart awareness about sustainable methods.

Additionally, the surging public awareness regarding the protection of assets is encouraging public and private organizations to adopt facility management services at their facilities. Nowadays, enterprises in Qatar are investing huge sums in facility protection services due to the huge investments attached to assets. Asset protection includes the minimization of capital expenditure (CAPEX) on assets and the achievement of investor's profitability objectives. To achieve these objectives, organizations are focusing on integrating infrastructure, technology, sustainable environment, and real estate management services in their facilities.

The service segment of the Qatar facility management market is classified into environmental management, support, catering, property, security, cleaning, and others. Under this segment, the property category accounted for the largest market share in 2019, and it is expected to continue this trend in the forecast years as well. This is due to the soaring number of newly constructed buildings, owing to the upcoming international events and the Qatar National Vision 2030. This category is further categorized into mechanical and electrical maintenance and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) maintenance.

These services are available in hard and soft types and can be deployed through in-house and outsourced modes. In recent years, the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors have been preferring outsourced services over in-house mode, because the former offers integral support to enterprises by optimizing the return on investments. Single, bundled, and integrated are the different types of services being offered by facility management service providers. The commercial sector is the largest consumer of soft and hard services offered through various modes.

In contemporary times, companies operating in the Qatar facility management market are strongly focused on winning contracts to gain a competitive edge. For instance, in January 2020, Darwish Interserve Facility Management W.L.L. won a three-year contract from the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority to offer integrated facility management services at the Qatar Air Traffic Control Centre (QATCC). Similarly, in June 2020, CBM Qatar L.L.C. won contracts from the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore and Al Kaabi Tower located on Al Aaliya Street to provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP), cleaning, and security services for two years at these sites.

Thus, the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 and rising public awareness about asset protection will boost the adoption of facility management solutions in Qatar.
