Saona Island in the Dominican Republic

The first time I visited the idyllic island of Saona, I was struck by the beauty of its surroundings. Beautiful coral reefs with palm-fringed beaches and mangroves are only a few of the islands natural treasures Los Haitises National Park. It also has starfish, which makes the perfect spot for snorkeling. Nearby is Mano Juan, a colorful fishing village where you can soak up the local culture in vibrant shacks. I also visited the turtle sanctuary, cave, and cotubanama where I stumbled upon pre-Columbian rock artwork.

A mangrove ecosystem is accessible on the island. It is home to a diverse range of winged creatures. The Red-Footed Booby is the most widespread, and is closely connected to the pelican. It is distinguished by its stunning blue beak, dazzling red feet and brilliant blue eyes. Other notable birds include the Palmchat which is the national bird of the Dominican Republic. This small, black-and-gray bird is easily identified by its raucous singing.

A day trip to Saona Island typically costs between 70-100 USD. There are promotional packages that start at 60 USD per person. While the basic tour is a good alternative, there are more extravagant options. You can take a break and get away from the crowds by choosing an exclusive boat tour. There's also a good chance that you will be able to enjoy the island on your own terms. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, head to Saona Island! Remember to bring your camera!

While a trip to Saona Island may not involve speedboats or catamaran, it does include a stop at The Natural Pool. Near the Caribbean Sea is the pool, which is the largest natural swimming pool. The pool is tiny but clean and shallow, making it perfect for children. You might even be enticed by a plethora of fish!

The Dominican Republic's Saona Island is an idyllic unspoiled beach, with a rich history and beautiful beaches. It is a sought-after tourist destination and a favourite of Punta Cana vacationers. It is home to two tiny settlements of people comprised of colorful homes belonging to fishermen. The island is protected by the government and is a sought-after tourist destination. Saona Island is home to many fascinating caves, not to mention its stunning beaches. One of the most popular caves, Cotubanama, was named after the proud chief of this region who was captured and executed by the Spanish conquerors Samana whale watching. Saona Island is a small island that offers a picturesque fishing village and craft center. A trip to the coral reefs on the island is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

Columbus' first visit to Saona Island took place in 1494. Saona Island was initially referred to as Adamanay by the indigenous Taino people. Later, he changed the name to Miguel de Cunneo, an Italian explorationist. A few years later the Italian was appointed the first governor of Saona Island. Eventually, the island became known as Isla Saona. If you are visiting the island, make sure to bring some treats for the children of the island.
