After having stayed in the US for almost a decade, I had finally decided to return to India mid-last year. There I had developed a liking to outdoor activities, off-roading, and off-course the SUV culture. When I was planning to come back, I always had this one grief in mind that I would be missing my favourite SUV and the great off-roading experiences that I had with it. What was worrying me was that when I had left for the US a decade ago, there were hardly any SUV cars in India that could be considered as “SUVs” in its true sense. They were all either imported super-premium cars or were ruggedly built care with least regard to comfort. Unfortunately, none offered the best of both the worlds – ruggedness & feel of an off-roader and comfort of a sedan.

Fortunately, when I returned last year, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the scenario of SUV cars in India had changed completely. I learned how one car, the Renault DUSTER, gave birth to a new segment that has today become the hottest category.

Before deciding to choose my SUV, I decided to do my own little research. I arrived at these four cars after much research. Let me share with you my findings.

Renault Duster
This was the car that ignited the fire! It was the first car to club the ruggedness & solid built of an off-roader with the smoothness of a sedan. What impressed me most in its latest version today were its aggressive yet suave looks, its powerful twin-engine options, comfortable interiors, and superior safety features. The latest DUSTER has all the things that one could ask for in an off-roader and a city car. Its powerful projector headlamps, LED DRL, tri-winged grille with chrome accents, matt black tailgate embellisher, and diamond-cut alloy wheels add a lot of appeal to the car’s exterior. On the inside, it is ergonomic, is spacious, has rich upholstery, and is designed intelligently with huge luggage space. The car is very safe and stable over smooth urban or rugged off-road terrains too. With the starting price of just Rs. 8.59 Lacs (ex. Showroom Delhi), this is one of the most noticed SUV cars in India that had even topped my list.

Creta:
Off late, the Creta has added a lot of style to this category. With a starting price of Rs. 9.81 Lacs (ex. Showroom Delhi), the Creta is currently the hotcake of the SUV segment.

Harrier
With beauty starts at Rs. 13.84 Lacs (ex. Showroom Delhi) and is the latest entrant that has created its mark with its superior performance and stunning looks.

Fortuner
The big daddy of them all, the Fortuner is the biggest, broadest, and the most dominating of all SUV cars in India that I had researched. With a price tag starting Rs. 28.66 Lacs (ex. Showroom Delhi), this beast dominates all with its sheer size.

Finally, after studying some of the best SUV cars in India, I choose the new Renault DUSTER for its looks, comfort, safety, and of course its price. During the process, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Indian customers are currently in the midst of an SUV revolution and are enjoying some of the most well-designed and super-styled SUVs today!
