Your doctor will help you decide which of the many treatments of toenail fungus that you should use. If the fungal infection is causing no problems or discomfort, most doctors will give their patients the choice of whether or not to treat it at all. It is important, however, to remember that just because a nail fungus isn't causing you trouble right now doesn't mean that it won't in the future. Fungal infections are progressive and capable of causing permanent damage to toenails. Not only that, most toenail fungi are highly contagious and can easily spread to other toenails - even other people! Patients with other health issues that have the potential of damaging the feet and legs, such as diabetes, will be advised to treat even the most minor infections.
