Understand what are the impacts of LGPD on companies

The impacts of the LGPD are already underway, even though the National Congress is still discussing whether the provisions of this legislation should come into force in 2020 or later.

That's because the General Data Protection Law, enacted on August 14, 2018, will revolutionize the way personal data are handled by public and private companies in Brazil. Therefore, working to adapt corporate routines to it is something that organizations are already starting to do.

In this article, you will see what these impacts are and why they are important. Check out!

What is LGPD?
Connected to the constantly evolving global data protection landscape, Brazil has introduced a new law to bring its data protection legislation into line with the General Data Protection Regulation of Europe (GDPR). This is the General Data Protection Act Regulation (LGPD), which defines exactly how organizations and individuals are authorized to collect and use personal data in the country.

In general, the LGPD guarantees that Brazilian citizens are informed when their data are collected and for what purpose. In addition, it gives people the right to request correction, deletion or provision of information in an easy-to-read format. Companies must demonstrate that they are able to respond to all such requests.

For companies, it is important to look to the LGPD as a source of opportunities as well. Based on this legislation, it will be possible, for example, to improve data management, make corporate information even more secure and raise the relationship with customers to a level of even more transparency and proximity.
