What are the types of bread found in the Indian market?

For centuries, India has had its variety of bread, popular as chapati, naan, tandoori roti, parathas, etc. It has become an integral part of modern living with urbanisation and less time for preparing breakfast. Since most families have employed members, it becomes easier to replace roti with bread.

Modern bread manufacturers use automated methods to produce multigrain bread and other products. You usually accompany bread with spreads like mayonnaise, jam, butter, honey, cheese, vegetables, chicken, and meat. Or you can dunk it in tea, coffee, or milk. Different breads you find in the market are:

White bread

It is the most popular and common type of bread available in the market and online. With 400 or 800-gram packs, you can find a size for each purpose and household. The contents include wheat flour without the bran and germ. Bakers can later fortify it with vitamins and minerals.

Brown bread

Brown bread contains the bran and germ not segregated as in white bread. Hence, it has better nutritional value as the brownish colour contains the wheat grain’s outer pericarp and aleurone layers.

Exotic bread

Retail and online bakeries promote exotic bread varieties like Baguettes, rolls, paninis, ciabattas, croissants, focaccias, organic bread, gluten-free bread, Danish pastry, doughnuts, and multigrain bread online.

Sandwich bread

It is white bread with larger dimensions for commercial sandwiches for offices, restaurants, and hotels. School children also prefer this type of bread with vegetables, sauces, and fillings alongside Pain Au chocolate, a viennoiserie sweet roll consisting of a cube-shaped piece of yeast-leavened laminated dough, similar to a puff pastry’s texture. It also has one or two chocolate pieces in the centre.

Flavoured bread

Bread manufacturers include spices and flavours to the bread to match the palate. There are many varieties of flavoured bread, including daliya, basil, garlic, onion, and cinnamon. You can buy them online or from the nearest bakery at your convenience. It gives a break from the usual taste and treats your stomach.

Buns

They are also popular as Pav and equivalent to burger buns. You can eat them with vada and bhaji for filling your stomach and make it a nutritious snack. You find them in stalls and restaurants all over India, with every region adding different ingredients to the delicacy.

Fruity bread

Along with chocolate croissants, you can also buy fruity bread for your kids. They love everything sweet and require no spreads. There are many bakeries in India selling different flavours of bread and croissants to treat their customers.

Benefits

There are multiple benefits of eating multigrain bread. It increases your protein intake, adds fibre to your diet, and is rich in carbohydrates, vitamins, healthy fat, and minerals. You can include it in your breakfast and snacks or replace roti. Use it as an ingredient while preparing other food items during parties and social events.
