‘Chucky’ Series Production Delayed Until 2021

The USA Network and Syfy series are planning to create a series about the doll possessed by a serial killer’s soul. The show was scheduled to be started this year, but due to the pandemic coronavirus, it is pushed to 2021. A recent report from Deadline, the team shared that the delay in the shooting will not affect the release date in 2021. The producers and directors are optimistic that the production can be completed on time. The show will be ready to release on the scheduled date.

Child’s Play, also known as Chucky, is an American horror franchise consisting of eight slasher movies created by Don Mancini. The original film of the franchise was released on 9 November 1988. The movie has six sequels, comic books, video games, remakes, and an upcoming TV series. The forthcoming show will be a continuation of the original film. The team confirmed in June 2018 that Brad Douriff would give his voice as Charlee Lee “Chucky” Ray. Syfy Wire revealed that the show would be aired on Syfy, which is executive produced by David Kirschner and Nick Antosca.

The production has released a teaser in the past July, revealing the demonic doll in a dimly lit toy shop and plugging the new release date. The series will reunite the whole team members from the previous project, including Brad Dourif and Mancini. Jennifer Tilly, who played the character of Bride of Chucky, is also reportedly involved with the series. The series’ official synopsis is that the Chucky doll has turned up at a suburban yard sale. The story is then thrown into an American town’s chaos until the murders start to expose the city’s secrets and hypocrisies. The allies and enemies of Chucky arrive from the past and threaten to expose the killings’ truth.

Although the franchise also is infamous for several crimes around the city. Four people tortured and killed a 16-year-old girl Suzanne Capper in December 1992; Child’s Play inspired them. The criminals taunted her with the song (Hi, I’m Chucky (Wanna Play?)). Two youths kidnapped and murdered a toddler named James Bulger in 1993. They were also confirmed to have been influenced by the movie Child’s Play 3.

Films do influence society, but we should accept that films are the reflection of the current culture. To blame movies for the crimes would not be entirely right. So all Chucky fans out there have to wait a little more to watch the awaited series.
