e-juice compliance: 4 ways to make sure your labels are FDA compliant

The vape industry has been growing fast over the past few years. In the US, at least 10% of adults vape. The same research from the CDC indicates that more than 9 million adults do so regularly. Most smokers prefer vaping rather than throwing in the towel on cigarettes.
The vaporizers and e-cigs provide all smokers with nicotine. With the enormous growth of vapers in the US, the FDA is cracking down on the requirements. These requirements affect e-juice labels because most of them contain nicotine.
E-juice labels should, therefore, meet the same requirements as smokeless tobacco, cigars, and cigarette labels. Below are the different steps to undertake to become compliant with the requirements.
1. Don’t Make It Look Kid Friendly
The government is paying keen attention to the e-juice industry like it did when cigarettes had fruity flavors. All e-juice labels should avoid labeling their products in a kid-friendly manner. It entails using cartoonish characters or labels on these products.
Labeling vape juice products in this manner makes them misleading since children can perceive them to be safe for their consumption. More so, the packaging itself should not mimic candy, whipped cream, or even juice boxes. Such packaging will endanger kits due to the kid-friendly appearance.
2. Have the Right Warnings
The most crucial warning for e-juice labels to include is:
• WARNING: This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical.
All labels must match the message, including the capitalization and the punctuation. However, that’s not the only stipulation from the FDA. Other requirements entail:
• The warning must contrast with the material on the package. You can achieve this by using white text on a black background or vice versa.
• The warning must be in a prominent and conspicuous part on all the display panels.
• Print in 12-point Arial bold or Helvetica font size. Sans Serif is also acceptable.
• The warning size should be up to 30% of the space available in each display panel.
3. Be Flexible
Label regulation changes can happen anytime. To ensure that you avoid any packaging problems, you should consider using digital label printing. It guarantees that you are prepared in case of any label changes. Besides, you won’t be at risk for non-compliance with the FDA.
Variable data printing is another way to properly updating the ingredients, warnings, and additional information on your vape juice labels. The technology also assists you in properly managing additional SKUs.
4. Include Product Details
Besides having a warning, you must include other details in your e-juice labels. Some of these include:
• Sale only allowed in the United States
• Percentage of the tobacco (both domestically and foreign grown)
• The numeric count, measure, and weight of the contents
• The name and address of the distributor, manufacturer, and packer
Abiding by the set regulations guarantees that your e-juice brand doesn’t face any issues with the FDA. Read all the regulations keenly to ensure that you won’t miss something.
