Communion Cups: Why Use a Prefilled Communion Cup?

The Holy Communion is an essential part of Christian worship as they remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. However, as church congregations continue to grow in numbers, serving the wine and the bread, the traditional way is becoming more difficult. Prefilled communion cups have made serving holy communion to the entire church really simple and quick.

About Prefilled Communion Cups

A prefilled communion cup is a single serving of wine or juice and a wafer packed together in a sealed cup. The cup is half-filled with grape juice or wine at the bottom, covered with foil and then a wafer is put on top before the final sealing.
Because the cups are sealed so well, congregants can pick them as they enter the church or passed around during the service. However, that is only one reason why churches should go for prefilled communion cups instead of the traditional way of serving wine and bread. Here are more.

1. Hygiene and Safety

At the wake of Covid 19 pandemic, the need to put hygiene in front of everything else is crucial. Prefilled cups are prepared and packaged with the highest hygiene levels to ensure the end-user is safe. At the user level, the cups come in a sealed box where congregants can pick one and go. The days where a team of people had to touch all those communion glasses and cut bread into tiny pieces are long gone now.
2. Easy Serving
The traditional method of preparing holy communion is tedious. The wine and bread are presented to the congregation individually, and the wine cups collected after. Afterwards, the team that prepared the communion has to clean the glasses and the trays before and after service. With prefilled communion cups, all this work is avoided, all you have to do is open the boxes. The cups are disposable, so there is no clean-up after.
Prefilled cups are also easy to carry, and people can take them for outreach work in hospitals and home visits.
3. No Wastage or Accidents
Among the problems that come with serving communion in tiny glasses is spillage and accidents. It’s also hard to know the exact number of people in church so most of the time the ushers prepare more emblems than needed, leading to wastage. Prefilled cups eliminate both of these problems. The cups are sealed, meaning there’s no spillage or accidents and you only need to use what is needed. The communion cups have a ten-month expiration period, meaning you can use any remnants the following week or month.
4. Compliance to Bible Standards
While most churches don’t care much about this, the bible talks about bread being unleavened and natural wine. In compliance with that standard, the wafers in prefilled cups are unleavened and contain no added sugar.
In these changing times, churches have to keep up with the demand for efficiency, convenience and higher standards of hygiene. There is also social distancing and the call for shorter church services in response to health protocols. Luckily, prefilled communion cups are now available for purchase by any church that wants to enjoy easy and faster serving, zero wastage and compliance to biblical principles.
