Informal work can be defined as that without registration in the Work and Social Security Card (CTPS). Here there is no employment relationship that unites employer and employee, consequently there are no labor rights.

Coming from the high unemployment rates that plague the country, this type of work grows every year. In it, the worker is self-employed, not entitled to any benefit.

There are advantages to informal work, such as the freedom to set your own schedule, in addition to deciding what to work for. But the disadvantages are the absence of vacations, thirteenth salary and other labor funds.

Historical context
After the Abolition of Slavery, Brazil dumped thousands of unemployed manumitted people into the labor market. Add to this the arrivals of European immigrants who were looking for jobs in the fields, mainly coffee.

It turns out that there was no way to employ so many people, since the country was poor and quite underdeveloped. So the solution was to work informally, as you had to survive anyway.

Understand informal work, its causes, advantages and disadvantages

After the Proclamation of the Republic, little changed in Brazil, as the country continued to focus on agriculture. The Café-com-Leite Policy dominated the economy and impeded its modernization.

With the Revolution of 1930, Getúlio Vargas invested in the establishment of national industry, which improved formal employment. Only, with that, the population went to the cities, growing unemployment.

The excluded decided for informality, becoming self-employed sellers or service providers. Street vendors, shoeshine boys, barbers etc. began to live with those who had regular employment. That is how Brazilian informal work was established, which only grows every year.

Characteristics of informal work
Understand informal work, its causes, advantages and disadvantages

Informal work is determined by the absence of a signed CTPS, thus not having labor rights. But there may be social security rights, since the informal has the option to contribute to Social Security as an autonomous person.

Acting in this way, he can have access to social rights, such as accident assistance or sickness assistance. In this way, lack of labor rights should not be confused with social security support.

It should also be noted that if there is registration as a micro-enterprise, informality will be uncharacterized. In this case, a National Register of Legal Entities (CNPJ) is acquired. Then the business will be legalized, including the payment of taxes and other financial charges.

What are the advantages of informal work
It is not just unemployment that leads to informality. Add to that high interest rates, rising inflation and government bureaucracy. In this way, it is a way to obtain a more advantageous income, since one works freely.
