Google plans to network to help find lost Android smartphones

The market seems to be more and more interested in small accessories like Apple's AirTags or Samsung's SmartTags, even if the idea of this kind of product isn't exactly new. However, it appears that Google is now developing something that could help extend the reach of these systems and potentially bring the same to some functionality that already existed.

Users of Android devices are certainly aware of Google's location system, which allows, in case of loss of a smartphone, to know its exact location or even block and delete the contents on it. This feature is not new, and has been available for several years.

However, to use the system, it is still necessary that the devices in question are connected to the Internet or have some way to access the network. And this is where Google intends to innovate.

According to the XDA portal , Google is building a new crowdsourcing system, which would allow it to use the entire network of Android devices on the market within Google's location system. In other words, this feature would allow Google's location system to be used even when lost smartphones have no Internet connection.

For this, Google would use the Bluetooth system, something similar to what happens today with AirTag or SmartTags. The network would take advantage of all accessible Android smartphones to locate and send small commands to lost devices. For now, there aren't many details about how this system would work, but the idea seems to be quite interesting – especially considering how useful it can be.

Devices are not always lost in a place where you have Internet access, and using such a system could considerably increase users' ability to retrieve their equipment, or even send remote commands to delete data or block it.

It is possible that more details about this technology may come out over the next few months, and we will certainly be on the lookout for more news.
