Are you deciding whether or not to get an electric toothbrush? It's an important decision, as it can effect your oral health. Before you make your decision, consider some of the reasons for getting an electric toothbrush over your old manual or traditional toothbrush.

First off, most people simply don't brush their teeth correctly. It's unfortunate but this is what most dentists have found in their clients. People are often too eager to get brushing over with, since it's just a dull part of their daily routine. They use poor technique, don't reach every area of their mouth, and just don't brush for long enough. The great thing about an electric toothbrush is you virtually can't brush wrong, the rotating heads and vibrating bristles ensure that proper stroke technique is used constantly, while elaborate sensors and timers ensure that you're spending the appropriate amount of time on each area of your mouth.

Secondly, an electric toothbrush is far superior to a normal manual toothbrush for basic teeth cleaning activities. When comparing the amount of plaque that's removed, research has shown that an electric toothbrush removes as more or more as a properly used manual toothbrush, in addition to helping combat gum disease. The special rotating and vibrating high speed heads provide a far superior job to manual brushing. Consider that with a manual brush you're probably not getting much more than a few hundred strokes per minute, and even less in hard to reach areas of your mouth. Compare that to an electric toothbrush which can achieve stroke rates in the thousands per minute, and isn't affected by hard to reach areas.

Furthermore, an electric toothbrush provides convenience that no normal brush can match. The features that come with modern brushes are incredible, from timers to polishers and other sensors. Most electric brushes these days come with a built in timer to ensure that you spend the optimal amount of time brushing. In fact, some even come with several timers, which will tell you when to move on to another part of your mouth. Furthermore, there are pressure sensors to detect whether you're pressing too gently or too hard. All of these useful features help users maintain excellent dental health and oral hygiene over time.
