Powdery mildew on indoor plants: how to deal with white spots with medicinal sprays

The disease can affect not only domestic cultures. All plants with leaves - trees, shrubs, grasses - are subject to it. The disease is so dangerous that it can even destroy an oak tree, which is several decades old.

Features of the disease
Fungal disease can be caused by different types of microscopic pathogens. The main signs are drops of liquid that appear after the maturation of the spores, and a white bloom. This is where the name of the disease comes from. To deal with it, you need to know the following.

The nature of the defeat . Leaves, buds, stems of the plant are covered with white spots that can be erased. Their size increases over time. They become brownish or gray in color. If there are large affected areas, the foliage will begin to dry out. Further, the mycelium becomes dense, acquires the structure of felt or film. The main symptoms of the disease are stopping the growth of a room culture, deformation, and leaf fall. The buds cannot open, flowering stops. The plant loses its decorative properties.
Causative agent . Powdery fungi belong to a large category, which is combined into genera, dozens of species. The pathogen remains in the remains of the plant. Infection occurs with spores of fungi, which are carried through the air, come together with water during irrigation. The disease is transmitted by contact of a healthy plant with a sick plant.
Conditions for the development of the disease. It manifests itself in conditions of high air humidity (60-80%) and temperatures above 20-25 ° C. It develops if the soil contains a large nitrogen content and a small calcium content. Those indoor cultures that do not have enough space for normal development suffer. The appearance of the disease is also facilitated by non-compliance with the watering regime.
Time of appearance. The disease spreads in early summer. After the winter sleep, the irrigation regime and temperature conditions change. Improper care leads to infection.

Treatment
Mechanical measures to Pest Control powdery mildew are effective only in the early stages of the disease. If the first signs of infection appear, you must carefully tear off the sheet with a white bloom. The rest of the plant should be wiped thoroughly and inspected for other damage. You can treat a flower with both folk remedies and chemicals. It is better to approach the solution of the problem in an integrated manner, using different methods.

Folk remedies
The most preferred option for gardeners, as it is budgetary and safe. Various infusions, spray solutions are used. Since they are made independently, the gardener is completely sure of what is included in their composition. They are most effective in the early stages of the disease.

Soap and soda . Dissolve 25 g of soda ash or baking soda and 10 g of liquid or solid soap (shavings) in 5 liters of water. We spray the plants at least twice, keeping an interval of a week between approaches.
Garlic. Chop 25 g of garlic - press under the press. We mix it with 1 liter of water. We insist the mixture for two to three hours. We carry out spraying. For convenience, pour the tincture into a spray bottle.
Ash . Mix a tablespoon of ash with 1 liter of boiling water. We leave the mixture for two days. We filter through gauze or bandage. Add 5 ml of liquid soap to the infusion, mix well. We process crops two or three times at weekly intervals.
Potassium permanganate . Dissolve 2.5 mg of potassium permanganate in 5 liters of water. We spray green "friends" several times with a weekly interval between procedures.
Serum. Mix 500 ml of milk whey with 5 liters of water. We spray the plants three times, keeping it for three days between approaches. Instead of whey, we can take kefir or yogurt in the same amount.
Field horsetail . We take 100 g of the product for 1 liter of water. Leave to infuse for 24 hours. Then we boil for about two hours. Cool, filter. We dilute with water in a ratio of 1: 5. We spray four to five times. We wait five days between procedures. We can make the infusion with a stock for a week. Store in a cool place out of direct sunlight.
Mustard . We dilute a tablespoon of the powder in 5 liters of warm water. We spray several times, maintaining an interval of two to three days.
Onion peel. We take 100 g of husk, mix with 5 liters of boiling water. We insist for two days. We filter, spray before the flowers appear, after and before the leaves begin to fall due to the change of season.
Copper sulfate. For 1 liter of water we take 2-3 g of the substance, add 20 g of crushed soap. We insist 12-14 hours. We process crops at least three times with an interval of four days.
Iodine . Dilute a couple of drops of the solution in 5 liters of water. We spray it three to four times, keeping it for a couple of days between procedures.
Colloidal sulfur . We dilute 10-20 g of the substance in 5 liters of water. We process diseased plants several times at weekly intervals. Add, if desired, a pinch of copper sulfate. We dilute it separately, gradually introduce it into the solution, stirring constantly.

Prevention of infection
The best plant protection is prevention. The most effective solution is to organize the right pet care. It is he who will provide crops with maximum resistance to infection. Two simple rules of content can be followed not only by professionals, but also by novice gardeners.

Inspection . We check the plant regularly. This will help to notice changes in appearance and development in time. We pay special attention to the inspection of leaves and peduncles.
Leaving . We apply fertilizers with phosphorus and potassium on time. We adhere to the correct watering regime. We remove the fallen, dried leaves from the ground. We carefully transplant it into a new pot, select the soil taking into account the type of plant. We carry out pruning and other maintenance procedures. We maintain the required indoor climate. We do not overmoisten, do not overdry the air.
