Furniture belongs to durable goods and is bought for more than one day, so the buyer must know how to make a far from cheap purchase correctly. The manufacturer, seller, importer, or a person authorized by the manufacturer who places furniture on the market, are obliged to ensure that furniture products comply with the requirements of the CU Technical Regulations No. 025/2012 "On the Safety of Furniture Products". This technical regulation establishes requirements for furniture products and the processes of their use (operation) in order to ensure the protection of life and (or) human health, property, environment and life and (or) health of animals and plants, as well as prevention of actions that mislead consumers.

Furniture products must be manufactured in such a way that, when used for their intended purpose and subject to the rules stipulated by operational documents, they provide: mechanical safety; chemical and sanitary and hygienic safety; fire safety; electrical safety. The marking must be clear and contain:

the name of the furniture product by operational and functional purpose, product designation (digital, own, model, etc.); manufacturer's trademark (logo) (if any); manufacturer's country name; manufacturer's name and location; name, legal and actual address of the person authorized by the manufacturer, importer; date of manufacture; guarantee period; service life specified by the manufacturer; a single sign of product circulation on the market of the Member States of the Customs Union. In the marking of children's and student's chairs, tables, desks for public premises, the following must additionally be indicated: in the numerator - their height number, in the denominator - the average height of the children.

The visible outer surfaces of tables, desks and chairs for preschool and educational institutions (except for secondary specialized and higher educational institutions) must be color-coded in the form of a circle with a diameter of at least 10 mm or a horizontal strip of at least 10 x 15 mm in the following colors in depending on the growth numbers of the furniture item: 00 - black; 0 - white; 1 - orange; 2 - purple; 3 - yellow; 4 - red; 5 - green; 6 - blue. The method of applying color marking should ensure its long-term preservation. It is allowed to apply color marking made by printing with a self-adhesive backing. Furniture products are accompanied by instructions that establish rules and conditions for safe use.

Household furniture and furniture for public premises (tables, chairs, armchairs, beds, cabinets, wardrobes, shelves, etc.) are subject to declaration of conformity. Children's furniture, furniture for educational institutions, furniture for preschool institutions are subject to mandatory certification. Information about the declaration of conformity or the certificate of conformity must be indicated in the accompanying documentation for the product.
