8 Ways to Safely Vent Your Frustration or Anger

Feeling frustrated, angry or stressed out are emotional states that have become all-too common in recent years, especially thanks to the hectic, non-stop lifestyles that many of us lead. However, thankfully, there are safe and controlled ways for more of us to vent our frustrations, and while you might be surprised to see axe throwing at the top of our list, it’s a perfectly valid frustration venting activity!

Read on to discover 8 ways to safely vent your frustration or anger:

1. Axe throwing

This fiercely competitive pastime has grown in popularity ever since it was first taken up as a sport in Canada, way back in 2006. Axe throwing venues (stationary or mobile) have popped up all over the U.S. and it turns out that it isn’t just Canadians who love picking up an axe and throwing it a target! As a way to relieve stress and tension, it’s ideal, and as strict safety measures are taken by all professional axe throwing companies and venues, it’s perfectly safe, too.

2. Screaming (perhaps not in a public space!)

Taking yourself off into a quiet (and ideally, remote!) space as soon as you feel rage building up inside you - or frustration that simply won’t go away - and screaming at the top of your lungs, can be remarkably effective and satisfying when you’re feeling overcome by feelings of rage or stress.

3. Do a rigorous workout

Getting all hot and sweaty at the gym, or running a few kilometers, might not be everyone’s idea of fun, but it sure is a great way to help ease tension and eliminate negative feelings. Take your favorite form of sport (if you have one!), and push yourself to the max for at least an hour to get the full benefit.

4. Keep a journal

When your mind is full of negative thoughts, whether it’s anger, frustration fear or worry, writing your feelings down in a journal can be incredibly cathartic; transferring your thoughts onto paper somehow helps to remove them from your mind.

5. Get creative

Whether it’s drawing, singing, painting or knitting, doing some of your favorite creative pastimes can be wonderful for soothing your emotions and helping you to feel more relaxed.

6. Change your surroundings

Sometimes, when your mind is busy and thoughts of anger or frustration keep whirring around in circles, something as simple as a change of scenery can help you disrupt negative thought patterns, and feel better about things.

7. Destroy something that represents your anger

If it’s an email that’s bothering you, print it off and tear it up or scribble all over it. If you’ve got a dartboard or enjoy taking part in any kind of target practice (axe throwing is a prime example here!), attach a physical representation of your anger or frustration to the target, and aim for it with all your might!

8. Get verbal

Yes, you can probably talk to a close friend or family member about the way you’re feeling, but sometimes, it helps to imagine the object of your anger or tension sitting in a room with you, and then to simply tell them (or shout at them!) how you’re feeling and what you think of them.

Some of these suggestions might sound a little weird, but trust me, if you’re feeling mad, throwing an axe at a target or ranting at someone whose upset you even when they’re not there, are all perfectly healthy, and often very effective, ways to unwind and relieve stress, anger and tension.

Axe throwing is a fun and exhilarating way to vent anger, release pent up frustration or simply enjoy from a competitive angle. No party can ever be dull with the addition of a mobile axe throwing unit, and at Axe House, we can help you transform any social event into one that every attendee will remember (and maybe even fantasize about for years to come!). Forget boring, traditional party games and keep the fun vibes going with an axe throwing contest hosted by our expert axe-wielding team.
