Safety tips to follow during playtime with slime

Kids love to mess around and explore. They are carefree, and that is what adds to their innocence and charm. Owing to this, the market is flooded with playthings to attract kids. One such obsession over the years is slime. It is a gooey alternative to clay and adds to the fun element. The slippery, sticky, stretchy, and springy substance comes in all colours and textures.

Playing with it is an exciting collaborative play for children. Besides being soft and stretchy, it has a crackly sound and smells nice. This leads to a wholesome sensory experience among kids. However, the pleasant-looking substance comes with safety concerns owing to the chemicals used. Parents hesitate to buy them for babies and toddlers. You can ward off these concerns by following these safety tips:

Supervise
Playing with the slippery liquid is not the most structured activity. It instead creates a mess at the cost of a fun experience. This also involves using ingredients, bowls, measuring cups, and other supplies to help with the process. The chaotic task leaves you sorting things and getting busy. Amidst this, do not divert attention for far too long. You never know when kids get curious enough to get a taste of the alluring object at hand.

Follow instructions
When you buy a slime making kit, you get detailed instructions. This includes taking proper measurements and going through the sequence, like a recipe. Read the mentioned steps thoroughly and follow the same. Do not deviate from the stated guidelines to prevent an unpleasant outcome. Most kits also come with moulds to pour the chemical concoction. Use them than kitchen utensils.

Use gloves
You never know which chemical reacts with your child's skin. It is better to stay safe and protect their hands with gloves. Use a good quality silicone material to save your time washing it. There is an option to use hands and wash them immediately after. However, gloves entirely prevent skin contact with the substance, ensuring a higher level of safety. Hence, include them as a part of baby essentials.

Have a designated area
You can play anywhere you want, but not with slime. The gooey substance leads to an uncontrolled mess. Hence, think of an area before you start using them. Consider a spacious place for unrestricted movement. Make sure there is enough water supply nearby to avoid moving around the house with messy hands. This way, you limit the spread of chemicals to the designated area. Besides, when done, you can clean up quickly.

Wash and disinfect
Clear up the traces of the substance thoroughly. Even if you wear gloves, wash hands with liquid soap. Also, disinfect the designated area to get rid of the chemicals. The bowls, utensils, and supplies also need to get cleaned thoroughly. After doing so, store them away from the reach of children.
