Could Axe Throwing Help You Build Upper Body Strength?

Let’s face it, we all want to look more toned and muscular, but it can be hard to find fun and interesting ways to do it without spending time at the gym. If you’re looking for new and exciting ways to build your upper body strength, but aren’t a gym junkie, you might want to consider axe throwing.Didn’t even know it was a possibility? Well, you’re not the first person to have never heard of axe throwing as a sport, and you probably won’t be the last, but now that you have heard of it, here are a few ways that it could help you look as if you lift weights, without having to lift a dumbbell:

Safety first

Before we get in to how axe throwing can beef you up, it’s important to understand and adhere to the safety instructions. While each venue will have their own rules, the basic safety principles are that you wear covered footwear, don’t swing the axe when anyone is too close to you, and listen to the advice of the professional axe throwers who are there to keep you safe at all times.

Turn axe throwing into a gym session

Axes are heavy, and throwing them requires effort and coordination, both of which are great for toning and strengthening the upper body. Because of this, it’s sensible to warm up before hurling your first axe, and perform some stretches to avoid injury.

Here are some ways to throw an axe that can help build and tone your muscles:

The double-handed axe throw:

- Stand with your feet together

- Slowly and carefully, lift the axe with both hands until it’s over your head, holding it securely, close to the end of the handle

- Put your less dominant foot forward, while stabilizing yourself with your other foot

- Concentrate on the bullseye and bring the hatchet forward, away from your head

- Once you think you’ve got the axe aligned with the target, release it with a quick, smooth action

The single-handed axe throw:

- Stand with both feet together

- Grasp the axe at the handle with your strongest throwing hand

- Take a step forward with your less dominant foot, using your other foot to stabilize you

- Focus on the bullseye and bring the hatchet forward until its level with the target, and throw with a clean, smooth action

Axe throwing is a whole lot more fun than sweating away the hours at the gym, and because it’s a competitive sport, you can actually get into it and start building on your upper body strength without even noticing that you’re exerting yourself!

Axe throwing is a fun and exhilarating way to vent anger, release pent up frustration or simply enjoy from a competitive angle. No party can ever be dull with the addition of a mobile axe throwing unit, and at Axe House, we can help you transform any social event into one that every attendee will remember (and maybe even fantasize about for years to come!). Forget boring, traditional party games and keep the fun vibes going with an axe throwing contest hosted by our expert axe-wielding team.
