Siberian cats, also called Siberian forest cats or Moscow longhairs, are native to Russia and one of the oldest cat breeds: possibly the ancestor of all longhaired breeds. The Siberian cats have a medium-to-large build and are a Russian national treasure.

Known for his adventurous spirit, the Siberian is an accomplished climber of great heights. As he or she makes their way through their home, he or she may jump over large areas.

Siberian cats are excellent parents and often have larger litters than average. When allowed into the nest with their kittens, male Siberians do well as parents. Breeding pairs are often very close. Siberian cats even prefer to mate with only one partner for their entire lives. Siberians tend to form strong bonds, making them a good breed to keep in pairs. When introduced with care, they also tend to adjust well to life in a busy family.

They can mate and produce kittens early in their lives, but it can take them up to five years before they become fully mature.
Siberian cats have water-repellent fur and tend to play with water more than some other breeds. During their shedding season, you'll need to groom them more frequently. Rather than temperature, their shedding depends on how long the daylight lasts during the day.

Siberian cats produce less dander than other cats, according to some scientific evidence. Additionally, while there is no truly hypoallergenic cat or dog, a study showed that Siberian cats produce less of the protein Fel d 1 (which can cause allergic reactions in people) than other cat breeds.

Siberian cats are calm, quiet, fearless, and playful. Siberian cats are very personable and love to be near their owners and family members. Children, dogs, cats, and other animals do well with them. They are also very intelligent and creative. They just know when to lend moral or psychological support when needed. Their melodic expression is expressed through sweet mews, trills, chirps, and purring.
