Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can damage fetal reproductive capacity

A research report by Danish scientists showed on Tuesday that mothers who drink alcohol during pregnancy may damage the future fertility of their sons in the womb.

Researchers found that if a mother drinks 4.5 glasses or more of alcohol a week during pregnancy, the sperm concentration measured by her son about 20 years later is one-third lower than the sperm concentration of those who had not been exposed to alcohol in the mother's womb.

The glass of wine mentioned in the study contains about 12 grams of alcohol, which is equivalent to a can of 330 ml of beer, a glass of 120 ml of wine or 40 ml of spirits.

Scientists from Aarhus University in Denmark announced the research at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology Conference in Rome.

Research leader Cecilia said: "Our research shows that moderate alcohol consumption during pregnancy is associated with a son's low sperm concentration."

However, she pointed out that since this study is only a preliminary observational study, scientists cannot say with certainty that pregnant women's drinking is the reason for the lower sperm concentration of their sons in the future.

However, if more studies come to the same conclusion in the future, it may help explain why the quality of human sperm has declined in recent decades, and why the quality of sperm in some countries is better than others.

Use the doppler fetal monitor to view the heartbeat of the fetus in the abdomen, observe the fetus at all times, and pay attention to his growth.
