Hanuman is a powerful archetype representing power, determination and sensual control. He belonged to the Vanara (ape-like) tribe and was a great devotee of Shri Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Maha Vishnu.

Hanuman is alos known as Anjaneya, Maruthi and Rama dhoota. He was born to Kesari and Anjana and served as a minister to Sugriva, a Vanara King. Hanuman possessed great body power and mind power and was a genius. He played a major role in the Ramayana and was the one who discovered the whereabouts of Sita, the abducted wife of Rama. Later when Rama waged a war against Ravana, the abductor of Sita, Hanuman played a vital role in the battle and ensured the victory of Shri Ram’s forces.

Hanuman, the devout monkey of Rama, although never mentioned anywhere in puranas or other sacred books like God, is worshiped as if it were God Himself. He is the son of Keasri and Anjana. But he is better known as the son of Vayu, the god of the wind. There are also references that he is the son of Lord Shiva himself. People from all over India adore it with great devotion.
