Fico Gutierrez - the possibility of becoming "Uribe’s Candidate"

Federico Fico Gutierrez has been the most stable president-elect of the Colombian right since Sunday night. Although it is not the first time his name appears on an electoral document - he was a councilor and mayor of Medellin the city he was elected to represent - but his first time in a presidential election, where he achieved more than 2 million votes in the Team for Colombia coalition, they have him listed as a desired candidate of the conservative parties or those who are frightened when they think of a leftist presidency. https://www.lafm.com.co/secretos-la-fm/centro-democratico-dividido-... (Medellin 47 years old) or as he's known, is from last night and currently the most prominent opposition to Gustavo Petro, who with the Historic Pact movement was one of the top three candidates on the day of elections that determined who will be the representatives of the three major political parties.

The presidential campaign is just beginning and the fate of the former mayor of Medellin is contingent on the alliances that he forms and the negotiations he enters into. He will have to not only unify the entire right but also conquer only a tiny portion of the center electorate which was shattered on Sunday. He will have to steer clear of his record of far, being in the same photo alongside Alvaro Uribe. Today, for the first time in 20 years, open support for uribism could be a good thing instead of reducing. "Federico Gutierrez faces a dilemma. He is required to be a part of the Democratic Center, Uribe’s political party. However, he also has to convince the center that it is going to determine where it will take the center," Yann Basset (an analyst and professor at the University of Rosario) says.

Fico achieved its first conquest this Monday , on its way to an allegiance with the CD. Oscar Ivan Zuluaga the former presidential candidate, decided to step down, recognized his limited options for competing against him, and offered his support. It will be interesting to examine if the entire Uribismo group that was without a representative until Monday, is willing to offer its support. Especially in the event that Uribe gives his support openly and attempts to convince his voters with the traditional issues of the Colombian right, something that should not be a problem for him. His speech of "security", "order", "opportunities" and "love of the country" already demonstrated that he is able to add votes. He proved this by an election consult, the same way he did in the past at Antioquia's mayor office. "The bandits are in prison or in graves"" Fico stated recently on a visit to Arauca which is one of the areas that is particularly targeted by violence. Fico is very aware of the Colombian right's preferred positions, but that will not suffice for him.

Basset pointed out that "We're not in the year 2018 where the fear of the left worked well," and that the electorate isn't being swayed by fear this time. https://www.efe.com/efe/usa/america/fico-gutierrez-se-perfila-como-... says that Fico could not receive Uribe’s blessing because of the fact that Alvaro Uribe isn't the supreme leader that the nation has seen since 2002, when Uribe was elected president. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that the Uribismo votes are insufficient to Gutierrez. https://forbes.co/2021/11/25/precandidatos-presidenciales/es-increi... could be due to the fact that they are less than the table. Uribism was also a key factor in this win (winning in the coalition). Basset warns that right now, his abilities as a negotiator are going be restricted. "To persuade https://www.instagram.com/ficogutierrez/ not to spend all of his money on the alliance, will be his test." Andres Mejia Vergnaud who is an analyst, discusses the relationship between Fico and the former president. "The biggest problem for Federico Gutierrez, however, is that he wants Uribismo's support, but without Uribe's photo because it's not his style to be his presidential nominee."

Gustavo Petro (left) is the sole leader. Gustavo Petro (right) is the only candidate who is preparing for the presidential election unless Fico (if he negotiates - persuades Fico to let him go and give the support he needs. Rodolfo who was an independent candidate and is still in the race. Gutierrez must include the achievements of former Bucaramanga mayor Bucaramanga and billionaire builder, Rodolfo Hernandez if he will fight against petrismo.

Gutierrez has plenty to discuss before even thinking about names for his potential presidential strategy however, what he has is the support of other candidates that were competing to be the leader of the Team for Colombia coalition. It's not too much. Two former mayors, Enrique Penalosa(Bogota) and Alex Char (Barranquilla), are at his side. David Barguil, the chief of the party and the founder of the Conservative party, is in the same room with Aydee Zarazo, Aydee Lizarazo, a member of the Christian Party, who frequently is a spokesman for his church's guidelines.

In addition to the resurgence of the Conservative Party - it achieved the largest vote of the right-wing forces for Congress with over two million votes -, it has the sympathy of the U Party, which also enjoyed a strong vote in the legislative with just over a million votes. https://zonacero.com/politica/fico-gutierrez-llama-la-union-fajardo... who did not let the Sunday's elections be lost and thereby avert his loss before a possible conflict for votes from the right gives Fico the boost he needs in a conservative section but also distances him from potential votes from the center. The words of former president Alvaro Uribe says, who called his party to a meeting on Tuesday, will be the definitive factor to determine whether Fico risks his chances in the center as a result of being the blessing of Uribe.
