Incontinence pads are equipped with a much more advanced absorptive core. This gives it the ability to hold in a volume of urine that is superior to a regular cotton pad inserted in the underwear for instance. Sanitary napkins manufacturer, their cores are usually made up of polymers able to hold multiples of their weights in the fluid. They also have a gel-like feel, so that the patient is relieved from the 'wet' feeling usually associated with urinary incontinence.

Also used by female and male patients alike, are essential in the repertoire of incontinence patients. Because they are disposable and not very expensive, they are one of the most convenient yet economical products. They secure dryness for patients with mild incontinence and post micturition dribble. Patients with moderate to severe leaks represent the first line of defense. Incontinence pads can be combined with incontinence briefs or pants for optimum degrees of absorption.

One of the main advantages of incontinence pads is that they are not bulky even with higher absorptive powers, making them very discreet. Some manufacturers also fashioned some male-specific incontinence pad designs making them conform more to the male anatomy and thus making them less visible under clothes.

The width and length of incontinence pads vary with the size and the level of absorbency. Some patients find the wider pads more secure, while others prefer the narrower pads and find them more comfortable. The issue of comfort is very important since most patients need to wear the pads for extended periods, often all day long.

There are also many useful incontinence products. Specially designed briefs, panties, and incontinence underwear provide a wide range of choices for females with urinary incontinence who require extra leakage protection. They are available in attractive styles mimicking regular briefs and undergarments. They would therefore combine efficiency and functionality. Whether disposable or reusable, these products are essential in the repertoire of women with moderate to severe incontinence.

Most incontinence pads also come equipped with an odor control design. This odor-free design allows for comfortable control of the embarrassing distinctive smell associated with urinary leakage that urinary incontinence patients often complain from. It is worthy of noting that these odor-free incontinence pads do not just simply have an added fragrance to mask the smell. This is useful because added fragrances can cause allergic reactions in susceptible patients.
