There are a wide variety of dual screen laptops on the market today, but what should you look for in one? Whether you're a student, a working professional, or someone who needs a larger display for watching movies or gaming, this type of laptop is the perfect choice. This buying guide explains some of the most important factors to consider when buying a dual screen laptop. We've also included a comparison of two popular models: the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold and the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold
The X1 Fold is a dual screen laptop with a durable multilink torque hinge and a 720p resolution display. Lenovo's flagship range of laptops is known for its quality, and this model follows in the same tradition. The ThinkPad X1 Fold features a custom motherboard and multiple heat spreaders, making it a strong and durable choice. Its environmentally-friendly design is also a plus, thanks to its 5.5% post-consumer recycled plastic. Lenovo has also conducted MIL-STD-810H testing to prove its durability.

While the X1 Fold's form factor makes it a truly unique device, the processor used is an experiment in itself. Intel's Lakefield chip, which powers the device, is one of the first laptops with this new architecture. This processor combines desktop and mobile architecture by creating one big core for laptop-like performance, and five smaller cores for tablet-like efficiency. However, despite its superior performance, the X1 Fold is still underpowered when running intensive tasks, like video editing and playing AAA games.

The base model of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold comes without a keyboard. You can add a Bluetooth keyboard and pen, which charge wirelessly when the X1 Fold is folded. However, the keyboard and pen are too small for this device, and will probably not fit inside a backpack or large purse. In addition, the base model does not have a USB port, making it difficult to charge the ThinkPad X1 Fold while it's folded.

Asus ZenBook Pro Duo
The Asus ZenBook Pro Duo features a second screen that can be used for additional photo editing features. This laptop is equipped with Adobe's Control Center, a virtual editing console that is customizable to fit your workflow. It works like AfterEffects and supports facial recognition for signing in, though it's lacking the tactile experience of a conventional palm rest. It is also compatible with Cortana and Alexa voice assistants.

Another plus with the Asus ZenBook Pro Duo is its size and placement. You can place your chat app below a game or watch a YouTube walkthrough video on the second screen. If you plan to use it for media creation, the included Asus Pen stylus can be handy. The Asus ZenBook Pro Duo weighs 5.5 pounds and is 2.4 cm thick. Despite its slim profile, it still feels substantial.

The design of the Asus ZenBook Pro Duo is a welcome change from the usual business laptops. This laptop's dual screens are more suited for content creators than for gamers. The new Screen Xpert 2 software package includes a range of productivity applications. These include Task Group, Window Flick, and an updated Control Panel. It is also able to handle a variety of input devices, such as keyboards, mice, and mice.

Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo
The Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo is an excellent laptop for gaming. It has a great configuration and a nice design. Unlike many dual screen laptops, this one does not feel hot at all. The dual screen allows you to switch between a 4K 60Hz display and a 1080p display. The keyboard is well placed and the touchpad is small. The touchpad can be turned into a number pad if you want.

The Zephyrus has a 15.6-inch 4K UHD primary display, along with a smaller 300Hz FHD panel. The screenpad raises automatically when the main lid is raised. It sits at a 13-degree angle, which Asus claims is ideal for maximum ergonomics. The screen also features a four-directional hinge, which allows the screen to tilt up to 13 degrees for maximum air flow and maximum visibility.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE sports a second screen between the main display and keyboard, allowing you to use the second screen for gaming controls, or even a browser window. With its hefty spec and competitive price, this could be the best gaming laptop yet. However, the Zephyrus Duo 15 SE is not yet available. You can expect it to be released in different regions.
