What You Need To Know About Ricky Brixx Aka Lloyd Pecoo

Ricky Brixx (aka Lloyd Pecoo) rose to fame with his hit single My House, which was the first in the Dirty South Beats series of hip-hop instrumentals that became an instant hit among rap artists worldwide and propelled Ricky Brixx to fame in the same way that Beatport helped electronic musicians like Calvin Harris or Avicii get recognized. With over five million plays on YouTube, My House quickly became one of the most popular hip-hop instrumentals of all time. And this was just the beginning! Here are more things to learn about Ricky Brixx aka Lloyd Pecoo.

The Early YearsRicky grew up in a family of four brothers, raised by his single mother, who he says is the only real parent I have ever had. A bit of a troublemaker in school, Ricky credits music with saving him from a life of crime and drug abuse.

While living with his uncle when he was 12 years old, Ricky heard some things on television that really touched him: Tupac rapping about death and police brutality over classic beats by Dr. Dre and others. The effect was immediate, powerful, and transformative. That music became my entire world, Ricky said. I listened to it nonstop.

He immediately gravitated toward breakdancing, an outlet for not just fun but something more important than that, validation. It felt good because you get so much respect within your neighborhood and community, he said of b-boying as a teen.

The Later YearsIn our lives, we all find ourselves in a situation that requires more effort than just jumping up and putting on your favorite album. Maybe it is work, maybe it is school, or maybe it is just life. For me, Lloyd Pecoo rapped as if his life depended on it.

For so long, he had been waiting for that big break, but after seeing no clear opportunities for years, he began working harder than ever and only focused on rap music. Having a studio at home meant he could create without leaving my house, which was great when writing lyrics.

When you are busy with studying and looking for part-time jobs, there is not really any time to go out and perform live shows every weekend (which most artists need). All of that changed about three months ago, though, when he met somebody who became interested in investing money into my career, it felt like everything was going to fall into place.

What Comes Next?

In 2016, Rickys chart topping track Here I Come hit #1 on Hype Machine, received over a million plays on SoundCloud, and generated more than 250k streams across various services. In April 2017, he released his first EP entitled Heard About Me, which has seen support from BBC Radio 1 DJ and grime legend Logan Sama and international acts such as Megaman, Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, Ten Tonnes and more.

He is currently working on new music with some of New Zealands hottest artists, including Scribe and SWIDT. He also runs one of Aucklands most successful youth programs where he teaches high school students how to make music in Logic Pro X, YouTube and industry standard plugins.

To date, he has taught hundreds of students how to use popular computer software such as FL Studio (formerly Fruity Loops), Ableton Live and Logic Pro X which are used by top recording artists worldwide. He recently launched an online training platform where students can watch exclusive tutorials while learning how to use these powerful tools!
