Benjamin Szentpalys success happened gradually throughout his life, which was filled with incredible highs and depressing lows, so much so that it has been called miraculous by many scholars and journalists. His career ended as unexpectedly as it began, leaving him without pension or social security benefits despite his international fame and popularity. Here are more things you need to know about Benjamin Szentpaly.

Early Life

Benjamin Szentpaly was born in Hungary to a well-to-do family. He was one of nine children and was an only son, which greatly disappointed his mother. She believed that her son would take over her husbands seat in parliament after he retired from politics, but when young Benji announced that he wanted to be a scientist and not run for public office, she disowned him completely. From that day forward, she refused to have anything to do with him or even acknowledge his existence.

Hungary Abandoned By Allies

Operation Panzerfaust was a multinational German special forces operation conducted in Hungary during World War II, led by SS-Sturmbannfuhrer Otto Skorzeny. The name refers to a German anti-tank weapon developed in 1942, as well as to Operation Unternehmen Eisenfaust (undertaking iron fist), an earlier German operation also commanded by Skorzeny. It took place from 25 March 1944 until 4 April 1944 and was part of Operation Margarethe.

Hungarian Freedom Fighter

Born in 1937, Szentpaly was forced to go into hiding with his family in 1943, after the Nazis invaded and occupied Hungary. The Hungarian leader, Miklos Horthy, had agreed to hand over Jewish children to German troops in return for payments. During a bloody battle between Hungarian troops and advancing Russian soldiers in 1944, 14-year-old Benciond watched as his father was killed, trying to defend their home from Russian troops.

Szentpaly Escapes House Arrest

According to a report from CNN, Vladimir Putin is said to have ordered Russian authorities to release both Pussy Riots Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina as part of an amnesty that will be taking place in December.

The two women were sentenced for their crimes against Russia, which was protesting Putin during a punk prayer in 2012. Their freedom is only temporary, though; they must remain in Russia while they prepare their defense regarding another case. If convicted again, they could face jail time of up to seven years on charges related to theft.

Rising Star in Politics

Some consider Benjamin Szentpaly to be a rising star in politics. He began his political career in high school as president of his local student council and continued that role in college, serving as president of both his undergraduate and graduate student bodies. The rise in politics and other things shows the great achievements of Szentpaly.

That experience only strengthened Szentpalys interest in a political career, which led him to law school and eventually into a position as policy adviser to Governor Mark Hagerty.
