A Guide to Hassle-Free Switch From iPhone to Android

The benefits one gets in an Android smartphone is bound to draw more users. Even an iOS user cannot deny the ease, multi-functionality, flexibility, widgets, etc. of Android. If you are planning or are about to switch to Android from an iPhone, the initial days might need some practice to get all the widgets and gestures right. When it comes to switching devices, the procedure might seem like a challenge but it’s not. It is relatively easy to do it. But the switching process takes some time for preparation and to run your new device without deleting the data you had on your iPhone. Follow the guide below for a better experience:

Use Google Drive

Your first step in this whole procedure should be to spring clean the device, and for that, you will need Google Drive. There are various other alternatives to it, but Google Drive is the best option of all for transferring all the photos, videos, and other data. Using Google Drive, you can transfer your entire gallery, contacts, and calendar. Install the app and create a new account if you don’t have one. Then, head to the Settings and use these steps:

Click on Backup. You can manually turn off the backup of a specific folder or app.
In the photos section, you have to decide the backup quality of the pictures.
We’d recommend you to take backup in High Quality as it will provide unlimited storage and noticeably good quality.

Export the Contacts

For this procedure, you can manually export your contacts using your desktop. On your iPhone, you have to use the iCloud to get all the synced data on your Android device. Log in your iCloud account and start exporting all the essential data from there. For getting hold of all the contacts, go to the contacts section and click on the gear icon located at the bottom left of the screen. Then, click on Select All and tap on Export vCard. You’ll find the vCard downloading on your computer.

Next, visit contacts.google.com and sign in to your account. From the bottom left side of the screen, click on the Import link and select the vCard file you downloaded on your computer. Here, you can merge the duplicate contacts and delete unwanted numbers to take only important contacts to the new device. It will ensure that Google brings you updated contact information only.

Check Your Apps

You cannot copy or transfer all the iOS apps on the Android smartphone, but you can easily find similar originals on Google Play Store. You can also find great alternatives to iOS apps that don’t support your Android device. The paid apps, except Spotify, Netflix, etc., you had on the iPhone won’t be available on Android. If these apps are available on the Play Store, then you have to re-purchase them. You might get lucky with some paid gaming apps as you can use those apps without re-purchasing, only if they are a part of Google Play Pass.

Music Transfer

While switching, you can only transfer local music, cloud music, and online streaming music & podcasts. You have to install appropriate apps to get your music collection on your Android smartphone. If you want a foolproof method, then using a computer is the best option. Using the PC, you can drag the iCloud Drive files to any other cloud, such as DropBox, Google Drive, etc. You can also move your iTunes music library from the Music app. Then, click on iTunes / My Music and select iTunes on a PC.

Sync Browser Bookmarks

If you use Google Chrome on your iPhone to sync with Chrome on your computer, then your bookmarks will remain safe on your account. But if you use the Safari browser, then you will have to export your bookmarks. Since Safari syncs with the desktop, you can open Safari on your PC and click on File. Then, click on Export Bookmarks. This way, you can import them into Google Chrome on your PC, which will start syncing everything with Chrome on your Android device. However, you’ll lose the saved passwords, so it’s recommended to note them down somewhere safe.

Wipe all the Data

If you’re planning to sell your device, don’t forget to turn off Find My Phone and erase all the data. It will ensure that the new owner doesn’t trespass your digital privacy. To wipe everything, follow these steps:

Go to the Settings app on your iPhone and click on your profile information.
Tap on Find My and switch off the toggle for Find My Phone.
From the main Settings menu page, click on General and select Reset.
Then, click on Erase All Content and Settings.
Along with this, make sure that you’ve signed out of your iCloud account from the device. Also, ensure that you have exported all the essential data that you may require on your new Android device.
