Resveratrol is an antioxidant compound which has received much attention since the 1990s. The chemical compound was first discovered as an ingredient of red wine como investir em ações no exterior. The compound is believed to have many health benefits, but research on humans is yet to be done, and the only results that are available are based on test tube and animal studies.

The compound is a polyphenol found in peanuts, berries such as cranberries and blueberries, grapes and different grape products such as purple grape juice and wine. The compound belongs to a class of stilbenes. Stilbenes are substances that occur naturally in some varieties of plants and are produced as a reaction to stress such as exposure to ultraviolet radiation, injury and different plant infections.

Medical science first became interested in the compound in 1992 when it was found to be an ingredient of wine. The interest was aroused due to the lower mortality rate of the French from various heart diseases despite the consumption of diets rich in fat. The French people drank wine heartily and it was believed that a correlation exists between the lower rate of heart diseases and the intake of red wine.

Several studies in animals and test tube have shown that the intake of wine can lower the occurrence of heart diseases. However, scientists have are yet to find out if this is because of the presence of the compound alone.

Other health benefits of the compound that scientists have been discovering include the possibility of cancer prevention and treatment as well as increase in human life span. However, studies are still unable to verify the same benefits in humans.

Overall, moderate consumption of alcohol has been found to be helpful against the incidence of heart-related diseases whether the beverage is beer, wine or any other alcoholic beverage.

Health experts are not advocating people to drink alcoholic beverages such as wine if they aren't already doing so. Owing to the lack of studies of this compound in humans, health experts do not advise the use of the supplements available on the market. At the same time, the medical community does not advise people who do not consume alcoholic drinks such as red wine to start doing so.
