Meals with little meat, a lot of nutritious grains and beans, and much more fresh fruits and vegetables are common across the continent. African cuisine has the potential to become the new healthy culinary trend.

Africa's cuisine is a blend of local fruits, cereals, vegetables, milk, and meat products, as well as Arab, European, and Asian influences.

Distinct African regions have quite different eating patterns. In some locations, milk, curd, and whey would make up the majority of the diet, yet in others, milk cannot be produced due to animal diseases. Apart from couscous, North African style of cooking is defined by olives and olive oil, which have been used since before the Romans arrived, saffron, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves, traditional spices, which were incorporated by the Arabs, baking and sweet pastries, which were introduced by the Ottoman Turks, and some New World foods –tomatoes, zucchini, potatoes, and chilli peppers.
