The deputies from the administering party, Christian Democratic Union cast their votes for Laschet who won his political race for the position of party's Chairperson over a potential opponent Friedrich Merz, with a minor edge. Elected as the Chairperson, Laschet won his victory by 53 percent of the total votes and got practically 521 to 466. ● Armin was in political power being an associate for almost six years from 1999 July 20 to 2005 July 25 of the European Parliament. After Norbert Röttgen decided to leave his political responsibilities and marked his resignation, only a potential candidate left to substitute Norbert's place as Armin. Armin was chosen as one of five Deputy Chairpersons for the governing party Christian Democratic Union. Volker Bouffier, Thomas Strobl, Julia Klöckner and Ursula von der Leyen, were the other four Deputy Chairpersons in the office other than Armin Laschet.
