Ayurvedic medicine, the Indian tradition that brings well-being

Ayurvedic medicine is a medical system of Eastern tradition that takes patient care into consideration to improve the life of the human being. The solution for improvement is, in fact, the relationship with nature, as it will have to be put in harmony with it.

Of Indian origin, the word ayurveda originates from ayur , longevity and see , revealed knowledge. This word was first mentioned in the Caraka Samhita, a treaty of 500 medicinal principles established during the reign of Emperor Kamshika, the great protector of the Buddhist religion.

According to Samkhya, the school of thought that explains the principles of the universe, everything takes shape starting from the union of two primordial essences:

PRAKRITI which is the always existed matter, pure unconscious manifestation characterized by three qualities (gunas):

  • SATTVA the principle of light, perception, intelligence and harmony
  • RAJAS the principle of energy, activity, emotion and transformation
  • TAMAS the principle of inertia, oxen, dullness and resistance

 PURUSHA which is the unmanifested universal thigh element.

The phase following the merger of Prakriti and Parusha is ANTAHKARANA, which includes:

  • Buddhi, cosmic intelligence or individual intellect;
  • Ahamkara, ego or consciousness conditioned by matter;
  • Manas, the mind or cognitive principle;
  • Chitta, the memory of all the sensory impressions and experiences of the individual.

Ayurvedic medicine and its objectives

Ayurvedic medicine deals with generating well-being, drawing positive effects through all the facets that make up the living being. Working on the physical, psychic and spiritual aspect allows in fact to put man in balance with the environment and with himself: any imbalance would lead to a malaise of the same.

Furthermore, the aim of Ayurvedic medicine is to help sick people to heal themselves and healthy people to stay healthy.

The latter statement is proposed as a clear explanation of the objectives in Ayurvedic medicine:

  1. Disease prevention
  2. Take care of your health
  3. Maintain your physical and mental well-being
  4. Promote the longevity of the individual

These four objectives are fundamental pillars in everyone's life and it is the operator's job to pursue them.

Precisely for this reason, the professional tries to act in advance through valid indications and advice on how to improve nutrition and life. In fact, the aim that Ayurvedic medicine has is to evaluate the possible imbalance of the initial stages of a subject (sometimes even before the consequences are found) and to restore the psychophysical balance through relaxation, inner peace and 'supply.

Ayurvedic medicine and tools

Understanding what treatments patients need is not easy. According to the indications given by Ayurvedic medicine, however, the body of each individual would be permeated by vital energies called doshas, generally perceived in different proportions:

  • Space and Air (Vata)
  • Fire and Water (Pitta)
  • Water and Earth (Kapha)

These energies are the determinants of the individual's state of balance and imbalance.

Usually each of these is characterized by the presence of pancha-mahabhutani , or the five elements that make up matter (ether; air; fire; water; earth). Furthermore, each one has certain guna (qualities) that characterize them. Needless to say, everyone would like to be healthy and have the best chance of realizing and enjoying their life potential.

It would be even more difficult to achieve optimal health as it would almost be a utopian belief.

But in reality, although it is a concept almost foreign to our way of understanding reality, understanding one's own constitution would provide concrete help in obtaining perfect health. Ayurveda, in fact, teaches us to understand the constitution of everyone through observation and sensations, a precious way to understand and get rich from an individual point of view. In fact, by discovering our true identity it is possible to live and enjoy a truly unique existence that can allow us to enjoy good physical and psychological health.

The Doshas

Doshas are qualities that affect the functionality of the body both physically and mentally.

The term dosha originates from the Sanskrit term defect or imperfection. Generally, it is the circumstances that arise in life that determine the excess of a particular dosha and of course it can cause discomfort depending on the threshold that everyone benefits from. From this overcoming, a temporary imbalance called vikriti is born and determines which literally means imbalanced that if not kept under control, can lead to a chronic problem and give rise to various health problems.

The dosha , moreover, are qualities that affect all functions of the body from the physical and psychological point of view. Precisely because of their presence in us and their particular combination , they make us who we are and thanks to Ayurvedic medicin and to get ayush herbal product license  it is possible to determine and manage our genetic constitution or prakriti .

Three types of dosha can be distinguished :

Vata . Space and air characterize the principle of movement. This profile is generally characterized by:

  • Lightness
  • Dryness
  • Coldness
  • Its main office is the colon

Pitta. Water and fire are the characterizing elements of this profile. The transformation is the cardinal element of the pitta and focuses on digestion reinterpreted both physically and mentally.

The qualities that distinguish it are:

  • Hot,
  • Oily
  • Hardness
  • Fluidity
  • Its main location is the small intestine

Kapha . Water and earth are the main elements and it is easy to think, therefore that the profile combined with this dosha is dedicated to cohesion, a characteristic of bodily fluids. The qualities that characterize it are:

  • coldness,
  • heaviness,
  • stability
  • Its main location is in the lungs

Ayurvedic medicine teaches us and allows us to stay within our individual threshold and doshas are the " center of gravity " of our emotional balance. Frequently, it is possible to find the combination of constitutional typologies: some people are pure vata, pure pitta or pure kapha, but many others undergo the combination of the three doshas and undergo one of the three dominant qualities. More rarely, but not impossible, we find a total balance of the three doshas, vata-pitta-kapha.
