Three types of chemical peels are used in chemical peeling:

1. Superficial peel: The mild acid composing of alpha-hydroxyl is used to exfoliate the skin by penetrating the outer layer of the skin in the superficial peel. Superficial peel treatment is used to enhance the appearance of rough skin and helps in skin brightening.

2. Medium peel: Medium peel is applied for the penetration of the outer and middle layers. The medium peel which contains glycolic acid or trichloroacetic acid is used to remove damaged skin cells. Moderate skin discoloration, age spots, freckles can be treated with this peel.

3. Deep peel: Trichloroacetic acid or phenol is used to penetrate the middle layer of the skin. This peel treatment is used to treat or remove freckles, scars. This treatment can only be performed once and is known to show improvement in the skin’s performance. This treatment requires 14-21 days for the skin to heal.
