Climate Catastrophe in Pakistan: Adaptation over Mitigation

According to the German Watch Institute, Pakistan is among the top 10 countries most susceptible to climate change. The world has become concerned about the continuous climate change phenomenon and its negative repercussions, prompting action to protect the environment and maintain its sustainability for future generations. Pakistan is no different.

Several analysts have expressed concern over the frequency and severity of climate-induced disasters in recent months and the equally alarming knee-jerk reactions of our policymakers. Most of them do not understand the complexity of climate change and communicate some illusionary objectives.

Ad hocism has increased our vulnerability to the effects of the climate, and inaction limits our possibilities for climate adaptation, which is an irreversible effect characterized in climate negotiations as "loss & damage." Pakistan's economy and population will be impacted by the escalating climate problem unless immediate, organized, and long-term action is taken immediately.
