However, I get that this is the first time Ash’s Pikachu says anything and that in itself is a shock but this event doesn’t occur in the “real world” but sort of an afterlife sequence. So again, it doesn’t really break convention but it is still resulting in a lot of confused fans.

If you missed the limited theatrical release of Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! then Disney XD has you covered later this month but the movie itself is already getting a mixed response from fans.
What’s weird here is that we have a Detective Pikachu movie on the way and the trailer already shows that this new type of Pikachu can talk. What’s more, Pokémon such as Meowth can also talk, so to have Pikachu say one line isn’t that weird.
