Our aim for the new version is to support the newly added functions of the current Joomla Version 3.9 as far as possible and to integrate them in jDownloads. But it was also necessary to remove or change some old parts. This means that version 3.9 will not be backwards compatible with version 3.2. More detailed information will be available at the time of jDownloads publication in the documentation. Likewise, a guide to easily upgrade easy an existing 3.2 installation to the new version 3.9 will be available. It is an upgrade not a migration!
Presently a new series of jDownloads is fast approaching the beta test state to incorporate many of the new features in Joomla 3.9. Within the next week or so we will be seeking volunteers to test the new series before general release. Interested Joomla users should create a jDownloads forum account, or use their existing jDownloads forum account, and send a short PM (Private Message) addressed to the administrator 'Arno' and with a subject title like 'test jD3.9'.
By selecting monthly in the Advanced setup, your own Joomla! test site will ask every month if you wish to keep using the site. So when you are done testing you just do not 'renew' and it will automatically disappear! Obviously you can load any Joomla! extension into your test site.
