Abandoned at birth, brave and loyal Karna grows up to acquire skills as a warrior to battle the Pandavas.
Born with the blessings of Sage Durvasu, Karna (N.T. Rama Rao) was sired by Suryadev and an unwed Kunti, who was compelled to abandon him. She subsequently went on to get married to Pandu and sire five other sons, Yudhister, Arjun (N.T. Rama Rao), Bhim, Nakul and Sahdev. Karna, in the meantime, was adopted by Adhiratha, a charioteer, and his wife, Radha, and grows up wanting to be a warrior. He is unable to find a Guru due to his birth, but does manage to acquire necessary skills from Suryadev, and obtain blessings from his new-found Guru, Parashuram. He will then go on to befriend Rajkumar Dhuryodhan, participate in the humiliation of Draupadi, and then take up arms against the Pandavas.
This was one of the best movies of NTR where he played 3 mythological characters that needed different styles,dialogue delivery,expressions and body language and I can say beyond doubt that he did that job exceptionally well.

Though the movie has been named after Karna, at times the character of Duryodhana seems to dominate the scene and NTR went against the monotonous portrayal of Duryodhana by incorporating a duet for him which was a surprise. Also, often one gets a feeling that the movie, in an attempt to glorify Karna, did not do justice to the portrayal of Pandavas.Added to this there were scenes whose authenticity is doubtful(based on what all we saw in Mahabharat serial and also a string of movies based on the same )

Overall this movie is a great watch, provided one doesn't bother about the authenticity
