In Console versions, the Guardians of Bast, (Bastet) aren't quite as active. They still disappear & reappear but they don't climb the walls like they do in PC. The Kilmaat don't sound like birds as they do in PC, Mummies don't have Grey head like PC & they shoot Red Spirits from their staffs instead of grey ones. In PC, Magmantis are larger & shoot 3 fireballs at a time, which make a loud crack when they hit the walls unlike Console versions & in PC the Omen Wasps sound like typewriters being typed on fast, when they're flying but not in Consoles.
Sega Saturn Manual: Powerslave (1996)(Sega)(US)[T-13205H]
Console versions kept Ramses but he only appears in Ramses Tomb (Tomb of Ramses in PS) after you are transported there from Pyramid you go to after finding an Artefact. In PC version, he appears in a couple of places & talks to you in others with the words he's saying on the screen. In Console versions, after you find an Artefact, you go to a Pyramid to be transported to Ramses Tomb. Console versions change the Symbols for Symbol doors from Bronze colour to bright Yellow/Gold. In PC only, you can even find a Symbol underwater.
For me, it was worth getting all 3 versions of this game. It was like playing a different game & anyway, as this is my favourite game of all time, I was curious to see the differences. I found that PS was more stable on edges of ledges & platforms than Saturn & in Saturn, you often had to jump at one point a different way than you did elsewhere. Some of the jumps were much harder, like to Up & Down platform over lava, jumping to a short, low ledge behind timed door to top ledge & floating down the final canyon with green ledges in Selkis Path. Cavern of Peril & Selkis Path took me ages to do but not in PS. As I write this review, I'm up to Magma Fields in Saturn, so I may have more to add later.
It's different to the Heart because it isn't Magic, so it won't use up any of your Magic to fill a slot. As with the Full Health in Console versions, it will only fill the lives you have, not give you another one like Guru or Ankh does. In Console versions, you keep the extra life slots permanently & just try to keep them filled but in PC version, when you lose a life, you must go to a Guru again, to get it back, so you could be struggling with a life until you find another Guru. Instead of PC's Heart, which gives you Full Health, Saturn & PS have Full Health balls to pick up & instead of the Life Blood Cups & Life Berries that PC has, to top up your Health to varying degrees, Console version has pink balls, dropped by enemies or in pots you shoot. PS is different to Saturn here, as it doesn't have the 2 different pink balls, (1 blinking, 1 not) for different degrees of Health restoration. It just has the one type of pink ball. Console versions don't have Magic Items that you must get Purple Magic Cups for to top them up, as in PC version. This means the enemies don't drop white Magic Spheres either that give you full Magic. In PC version only, there are also Venom Cups placed in your way that take Life. If you run into enough of them, depending on how much Life you have, you may die. If you accidentally run into these, the hero coughs.
It seems I can't add a separate review, so I'll make this one even longer. I hope it doesn't all print out again.
Thanks to the booklet/manual you posted, I can now confirm that what the Exhumed PAL PlayStation booklet called Anubis, is Anubis Zombie, Bird of Prey is Hawk & Guardians of Bast are Bastet in the original Powerslave manuals. I now know the names of other enemies not listed at all in PAL Exhumed PC and PlayStation booklets & can confirm that their use in various walkthroughs is correct. Wasps are Omenwasp (one word), Kilmaat are Kilmaat Sentry & what I was calling Lava Demons are indeed Magmantis. Giant Piranha & Mummies are listed the same in all Powerslave & Exhumed booklets. Only Powerslave versions listed the boss enemies, which are Set, Selkis & Kilmaatikhan. However, Ramses mentions Set by name in all versions & Selkis & Kilmaatihan by name in PC version. in Saturn & PlayStation versions he mentions Set by name but only refers to Kilmaatikhan as the Kilmaat Queen & if you put 2 & 2 together, you'll know the other boss is Selkis because of the name of the level she's in 'Selkis Burrow' .
As far as the review goes, there are so many differences between the games, it's hard to know where to start. The Saturn & PlayStation console versions have totally different scenery, Maps & names for the places (levels) you go to from the PC version. They don't have Unseen Eye (Magic Item) for Invisibility that PC has (looking macabre with the blood veins hanging down the back) but Saturn does have a green ball you can pick up for Invisibility that PS doesn't have. As with the PC Magic items, the effect only lasts a short time then you get pips sounding to tell you that it's about to run out. The only difference is that the Saturn one doesn't use Magic. Both PC & Saturn have an ability to shoot weapons faster (PS doesn't). In PC, you pick up Severed Hand (Magic Item) & in Saturn, it's a dark pink ball. Both run out after a short time.

PC has an ability that the Consoles don't have. If you're hit by a Mummy's Spirit that has a Fireball with it, you temporarily turn into a Mummy with a Staff & you can kill all the Mummies in the room with 1 tap of the staff then the hero laughs. If you don't kill all the Mummies quickly, one way or another, a Mummy can resurrect the ones you killed (also not in Consoles). In PC, the Spirits that the Mummies send to you, scream. The hero in PC version says things like, 'Son of a bitch!', 'That's right!', 'Eat it!', 'Who's next?'& 'See ya.' He also says something I couldn't quite make out, like 'Gone' but now I think it's 'C'mawn' (come on) & he yells in an afraid way when he falls or jumps down a fair way, even if he's going to be safe. In PC, there's also a noise regularly as you go along, like a growl. It doesn't seem to be from the hero or any enemy, so it must be for effect. There's also a voice sound effect, like it's in an echo chamber . There are gulping noises when you drink from a cup & crunching noises when you eat the Berries.

Before I start, I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting the Powerslave Saturn Booklet. I wanted to know if the names of Enemies I'd seen in walkthroughs were from the game or just made up by whoever wrote the walkthrough. I now know the names are correct. I only have the Exhumed (PAL) Saturn version & it doesn't list any Enemies at all. Now I hope someone posts the Booklets for the Powerslave (not Exhumed (PAL) PlayStation version. The PC version was the first, followed by Saturn then PlayStation. I tried to program a Joystick for the PC game but although I got the computer to recognise the Joystick & the game listed options for the buttons, my computer tech said the game hadn't enabled a Joystick but you can still program a Mouse & use it in conjunction with the keyboard, if you don't want to stick solely to the keyboard. Saturn & PlayStation version are totally different to the PC version apart from having the same storyline, weapons, artefacts & enemies. The PC version has one enemy that isn't in the console versions. It's like an armadillo with a big mouth & teeth & I've seen it called Am-mit or Rex Fiend. I've now seen a Powerslave PC Manual, which confirms this enemy is called Am-mit. Also, the PC version doesn't have any Bird enemies, which are called Hawks in Powerslave Saturn version and Bird of Prey in Exhumed PAL version. Somewhere on the internet, I saw the bird called Amnit but I think they got confused. I don't believe there's an Amnit name for the birds or any other enemy, just Am-mit for PC enemy not in console versions. The PAL Exhumed booklet lists the Red Spiders as Spiders but Powerslave booklet says they're Terrainians. PlayStation version has blue Scorpions instead & the PAL Exhumed version manual does list them as Scorpions. There are also Rats in PC version that aren't in the 2 console versions.
I bought the Saturn Console second hand & also bought a second hand Exhumed game for it. I was perturbed when I found that the Saturn didn't have Memory Cards like PS. You had to have a battery in it or you couldn't save the game. Fortunately, I went to Dick Smith's & got one for $4.00. (I'm in Australia). I have to say, from what I read about Lobotomy Inc., it's so sad that they folded but I understand that the distributers weren't doing a good job & the Lobotomy team weren't being paid in the end. The company was started by some guys that left Nintendo & they were joined by more team members. Apparently, Saturn wasn't intended to do the things that Lobotomy made it do, so power to them for that. They invented a revolutionary game engine that was ahead of its time. Lord knows what they could have done if they kept going. Out of Saturn & PS, which is hardest? I have to say that some of the Saturn parts were really hard but PS had an advantage in having the Saturn version to improve on & there are parts that really add something to the game like in PS, in Set Palace, they added a whole area of floating, Falling & Up & Down platforms that you had to do with a timed door to get through before you could go to the End Camel. Another level that is completely different at the start, is Magma Fields. PS has eliminated a whole area at the start of this level, which has Floating Up & Down platforms over Lava & that's where you find the Ring of Ra & Transmitter Piece. In PS, when you get to the area that has the shaft down to Team Doll, that's where Ring of Ra is & when you get through the door up the ramp, PS put a whole new area at right, with 2 Up & Down platforms & 2 platforms in the Lava that lead to a small building with the Transmitter Piece. PS added a small area to the start of Selkis Path too.

Console versions added Ring of Ra to weapons that PC doesn't have. Console versions also don't have the Ammo that you pick up for weapons in PC version. They have a gauge for each weapon that is filled with energy from the blue balls you pick up, dropped by enemies or in pots you shoot. There is also a Full Weapon Power ball to pick up. As with the Health balls, in Saturn, there are 2 strengths of blue balls you can pick up. (1 flashes). The console versions don't have the Venom Cups either that poison you, which PC has. PC version has a counter that goes down as you use Ammo. Console versions have the gauge for each weapon that goes down as you use Ammo. You must divide the Weapon Power you receive, between the weapons by selecting that weapon before you run into the power.
Shades of Lara! (Tomb Raider). PC version has blocks to push so you can access other areas, which are not in Console versions. Sometimes you have to move whole walls to get to another room. There's also crawl spaces. These often have the Magic Items like Heart or Severed Hand to be found. You may also have to bomb some walls to find these. Some hidden alcoves in walls aren't as clearly marked as a cracked face, so check out any panels inset in walls with a slightly different colour, as it's important to keep up your Ammo. There are also Darts that fly across your path, which aren't in console version, also reminiscent of Lara. This is much more of a shoot-'em-up than either Saturn or PlayStation versions. There are also Lara-type traps like pounding blocks that you have to get through, which also aren't in Console versions. In PC, you have Checkpoints, which are activated by running into a Scarab (not in Consoles). These save that place in the game while you're playing, if you die but if you exit the game before finishing that level, you'll start at the beginning again. Instead of a Gold Sarcophagus in PC version at the end of a level, which saves your game, Consoles have an End Camel, which represents riding to a new level. There's always a Start Camel behind you too (except for level 1) for how you got there & to get back on if you don't want to stay in that level. There is an option that Consoles don't have, you can switch from first person (being the hero & not seeing him) to 3rd person (looking at the hero, like Lara). Consoles changed the name of the Grenade weapon to Amun Bomb. They also changed the name of the Eye of Ra gauntlet to Sacred Manacle. Consoles have kept Switches, Pressure Pads & Braziers that PC game has, as well as finding the Symbols to open doors with the same Symbol on them. PC game has different patterned Symbol doors in different levels. Console Symbol doors are the same through the whole game. In PC game, the Bastet (Guardians of Bast), turn to stone again when killed then crumble. In Console versions, they just explode into pieces of meant. In PC, the pots are only decoration but Console versions made them for shooting to get blue or pink balls or random level Maps. Sometimes they have Red Spiders/Scorpions,Omenwasps or green Evil Spirits in them & sometimes they just explode.
Saturn has an All-Seeing Eye that neither PC or PlayStation have but it's just instead of the Map Scrolls you pick up in the other 2 games, which give you the Map of the whole area instead of waiting for it to slowly unfold as you go through the level. Instead of the PCs Meditating Guru, which gives you an extra life, (5 in all making a total of 6 lives) the Console versions have Ankhs you must find first. Saturn has 5 Ankhs (also 6 total) but PlayStation only has 3 Ankhs, a (total of 4 lives). In PC, you start with the 5 slots & when you find a Guru you just run into it, when you need to fill a slot. Only 1 full slot per Guru.
One of the reasons I got onto this page was to look for the contents of the booklet that comes with Powerslave. I have all 3 versions, PC, Saturn & PlayStation in PAL (called Exhumed) but the PC & PlayStation booklets for these don't list the names of the some of the Enemies & PAL Exhumed Saturn booklet doesn't list any enemies. I needed to know if the names used in the walkthroughs were the ones the game gave them or ones the person writing the walkthrough made up, as names in Exhumed PAL PC and PlayStation manuals were different. I didn't want to steer people wrong in my notes. My PAL Exhumed PC & PlayStation booklets list Bastet as Guardian of Bast & Anubis Zombie as Anubis. In PAL Exhumed PlayStation manual, Hawk is listed as Bird of Prey.
Another interesting titbit is that when the Lobotomy logo comes up in Saturn (at least my PAL Exhumed version of it), there's no insane laugh but in PC & PS versions they have this maniacal laugh. In PC, the dead enemies don't disappear as they do in Console games. PC has Red Spiders, which Saturn kept but for the Americans, they made them into Blue Scorpions for PlayStation version. In PC, you can kill the Red Spiders by walking on them but not in Consoles. Another creature PC has that Consoles don't is a Rat. These are even underwater (water rats?). They don't hurt you but they get in the way sometimes & weapons will point at them instead of the enemy. When you hear this half squeak, half squeal, you wonder what it is & it's just a Rat. You will also find Ammo under the water, so you must look everywhere. In all 3 versions, when you have Full Ammo or Weapon Power for a Weapon/s you can't pick up anymore. Also in PC game, you don't need to aim up or down as much when shooting enemies. You just aim in their direction & still hit them if they're high or low. In PC, there's a part leading up to the battle with Set, where the Anubis Zombies have drums that they're drumming on & if you don't shoot them, they'll leave you alone. There are no Anubis Zombies with drums in Consoles. In PC version, there are hidden alcoves with Health & Magic in them. These have a cracked face on the wall in front of them. (In Console versions, you can find some hidden Full Health or Full Weapon Power by bombing walls). In other places in PC, you'll find the Magic Items. That's the differences & similarities between the 3 versions but there's whole other lot of differences between the 2 Console versions, so I'll leave these notes & start some new ones.
The other notably different level from Saturn is Amun Mines. When you look carefully, you see that PS version is laid out the same as Saturn version but PS added Swamps & walls that weren't in Saturn. Instead of swimming through Piranha infested water to get Symbol of Earth, you jump over ledges in the swamp to get it. In Saturn you can use Bomb Boost or Boost Jump using an Amun Bomb, to get to high places, which you don't have in PS. This means you can get some of the Team Dolls sooner, than in PS, instead of waiting until you finish the game then getting Dolphin mode & Vulture mode as you do in PS but you have to wait for some of them in Saturn also. Some are so high or tricky to get to that you must have the Horus Feather to get them. In Saturn, some levels have 1 Team Doll, some have 2 Team Dolls & others have none. PS decided to even them out & put 1 Team Doll in each level. That meant that many of the Team Dolls were in different places. They took Team Dolls from levels where there were 2 put them in levels that had none but they also moved some Team Dolls they didn't have to & we don't know why. This means that one of the Team is in a different level to what he was in on his own in Saturn. There are no Teams Dolls or Transmitter pieces in the PC version. Most of the places for the Transmitter Pieces are different in PS from Saturn too. In PC version, you must go through a timed sequence, finding & blowing up all 6 Energy Towers & Control Panel in the Mothership (not in Console versions), to transmit signal for rescue with Transmitter you already have. If you fail to do this in time, you get the Bad Ending.
Item Preview.
The Sobek Mask is a Magic Item in the PC game & uses Magic up as you use it. In the Console versions, it's one of the Artifacts you have permanently. In PC game, you do have some permanent Air Pockets in the water, represented by a cluster of bubbles that you run into to breathe. (Not in Consoles). Once you know where you're going & can dispatch the Piranha easily, you can manage through the whole game with just these bubble if you wish. Console versions didn't keep the 'Lungs' gauge you have in PC version, to show how much air you have left while underwater. They replaced it with a large blue ball at top/right of screen, that goes red from the outside in, as you use more air. In PC, once Magic Items are used, you have to find more. You can hear the Heart beating when you're near one. Permanent Artefacts in Consoles, replace some of the temporary Magic improved abilities in PC. Saturn & PS, don't have the Beetle (Magic Item) for Invincibility that the PC version has. This makes you temporarily immune to attacks & to Lava. In Console games, you get Protective Anklets permanently, which give you partial protection from the Swamp & Lava in PlayStation & in Saturn you get total protection from the Swamp & partial protection from Lava. PC has another Magic Item, a Torch that lets you see in completely dark areas that isn't in Console versions but console versions don't have dark areas. You have control over when to use these items. You can only keep so many Magic items at a time though & you can toggle through the pictures of them at bottom/left of screen. In Saturn, when you run into the Weapons Boost or the Invisibility balls, they activate immediately. Other Artefacts in Console versions apart from Sobek Mask & Protective Anklets are Sandals of Ikumptet to jump higher, Shawl of Isis to float down or jump further from & to same height ledges, Kilmaat Sceptre to get through the Forcefields that only Console version have & Horus Feather to hover permanently at a select height then move to wherever you wish over deep gaps.
Differences between Saturn & PlayStation. It would take too long to go into the differences in each level. If you want to know them all, see YouTube Exhumed walkthrough by ElBryan. He has done videos for all 3: PC, Saturn & PlayStation versions. I have put involved comments on each level of the Saturn version he's done, about the differences between the Console versions, under my name, Meredyth Sawyer. I will keep it brief here & just give you examples of the differences. I have already mentioned some differences between the 2 Console versions in the differences between the 3 versions, so I won't mention them again. The really big differences are that in some places, PS completely did away with an area that Saturn had at the start & sometimes PS created an extra area at the start that Saturn didn't have. The same goes for slight differences to areas through the game. PS's Cavern of Peril is a complete departure from Saturn's version. The only recognisable thing in it is that you get the Flamethrower there & there is a deep hole you float down but in Saturn, you go down then make your way up to the top, jumping huge gaps between ledges & getting to diabolically short ledges that you have to STOP on before you fall down ahead. In PS, they created a whole new scenario, where you have to find switches in different areas, to open the doors behind a door at the bottom of the hole, to get the Symbol of Power, which lets you through to the End Camel.
