“This is what you chose to do,” they said. “How bad do you want it?”

Every year, 18-year-olds around the world attend university in search of a choice. A choice to create a better future for themselves through the power of education. But what if that decision was already made for you? What if it was taken away by the skyrocketing costs of tuition?

While most families raise their children with the expectation that they will one day attend university--some even save money to ensure their kids will have the chance at a better life--mine let the responsibility come crashing on my shoulders.

But I refused to let that stop me. I attended university anyway; I sacrificed sleep and fun for the part-time job that pays my bills. And while it is enough to support my living costs, it is not nearly enough to cover my tuition throughout the year.

I have already completed my first semester at The University of Canberra, averaging an 84.5 in my classes as a first year Commerce Major. I worked extremely hard to balance supporting myself financially with studying and paying my tuition, and it was a great feeling to have done that on my own. However, unfortunate circumstances have left me with no choice other than to turn to the public for help.

So rather than simply giving up, I’m choosing to give myself a chance to make something of myself--to rise above all that is trying to weigh me down. Please, if you can help in any way at all I will not only be eternally grateful for your help, but I will reward you with a gift depending on the amount of money given. And if you’re unable to donate at this time even a simple Facebook share could bring me an average of $25 per post.

Thank-you for your caring. I deeply appreciate the efforts of every single person who takes the time and resources to help give me the freedom of a good education. Your investment in the education of a single youth such as myself is the positive gesture that will inspire those around you to do better--to make humanity better. Thank-you for your kindness, your generosity and your belief in my vision to make tomorrow brighter.
