England Rugby side named a 32-man squad

England Rugby team head coach Alan Dickens has named a 32-man squad for the Six Nations which comprises eight players previously topped at this level. The eight players making a send are Archie McArthur, Finn Theobald-Thomas, Greg Fisilau, Chandler Cunningham-South, Rekeiti Ma’asi-White, Lewis Chessum, Louie Johnson, and Charlie Bracken.

The England men’s U20 squad will not only contribute to the Six Nations tournament but also to the World Rugby Under-20 Championship this summer. The player pathway program for England is crucial for the development of potential international rugby players; out of the 48 players who had caps for England last year, 42 of them earlier played for the England U20 squad.

We’re very happy about the team coming together in camp this week as we make for our RWC 2023 campaign. Being chosen for England at any level is a great moment in their careers and confidently this is the next step to achieving their ambition of playing for the senior side. Eight players are sending this year who have been part of the Under-20 setup earlier, plus another four Nathan Jibulu, Rob Carmichael, Josh Dingley, and Tobias Elliott who took away a lot of experience from last year’s Under-19 match in Italy, said Dickens. Similarly, others have done very hard to be chosen for the pathways program for the first time.

We’re looking forward to what will be a tough Under-20 Six Nations campaign, which starts with our match counter to Scotland at Twickenham Stoop, which was by the World Rugby Under-20 Championship later this year. We’re also looking ahead to taking on Oxford University in the head of a lively, and positively packed-out Iffley Road before we back up next to the Loughborough Students the following week. These matches are an essential part of our training for the Under-20 Six Nations and will offer a chance to see players perform as a squad ahead of the tournament World Cup. Tom Willis is in line for a surprise call-up to England's Six Nations team

Tom Willis, who was made unnecessary when Wasps went into administration in October, could be in line for a wonder call-up to Steve Borthwick’s first England team for the Six Nations Championship, Telegraph Sport can show. It is assumed that Borthwick, who is due to finalize his team next Monday, has phoned Willis’ new club Bordeaux-Begles to advise them that the 23-year-old No 8 is under regard for selection.

Rule nine, the law that governs the issue of players for international duty, involves that governing bodies must sign a form for all players playing abroad to secure that issue for potential call-ups, and sources have suggested that Bordeaux-Begles believe him to be selected. The back row is one area of the England Rugby team where the contest is strong. Still, the fact that Borthwick has pushed to explain his disposal suggests the unsealed Willis, the brother of former Wasp’s flanker Jack, is firmly in his feelings ahead of the Rugby World Cup in France in September. An England call would represent a notable deliverance story for Willis, who was one of 167 players and staff made unnecessary after Wasps fell into government on October 17.

Willis was able to save a short-term deal at Bordeaux-Begles in November but though the Top 14 club is unspoken to be keen to recall his facilities next season, they are submissive to losing him to Saracens next season next the doubt caused by the sacking of their head coach Christophe Urios in November. Willis spoke only last month about his dream of playing for England together with his brother.

Jack Willis, 26, who earned the last of his six caps off the bench in England’s 25-25 draw against New Zealand last November, also discovered employment in France after Wasps’ collapse by signing for Toulouse. For now, it is assumed that Borthwick, who is finalizing his team selection this week, has requested the Premiership clubs for some extra elasticity over the issue of players for England’s elite player team.

Borthwick is only permitted to make five changes to the 45-man team under the regulations in the expert game agreement between the Rugby Football Union and the Premiership. The former Leicester director of rugby though is reasonably keen to be able to make as many changes as likely and given the conditions of his appointment midway through the season following the sacking of Eddie Jones, there is hope in the England side that cooperation can be touched that would allow greater suppleness.

It is assumed that Borthwick has studied whether it is feasible to change players if they were at the same club which would guarantee that the grant to the club stays the same but would allow the England head coach to make more than the allowed five changes. Dan Cole, the 35-year-old Leicester prop capped 95 times for England, is on course to be one of the changes, along with Saracens flanker Ben Earl and Dan Kelly, the 21-year-old interior centre and club team-mate of Cole.
